Ok, done a little more studying at work.

Subframe will be audi 80. As will wishbones, engine and gearbox. Basically i've got to buy a whole car, preferably the 2.8 v6 jobby, which as far as i can see is just a regular 12v vr6 AAA code.

The wishbones will then be mated to mk2 golf gti 16v front hubs/bearings/carriers, along with 256mm vented brakes. Front mk2 golf coilovers will then be used (if i cant modify the existing rears) and mated to the original polo rear strut tops. Driveshafts should in theory be the audi donor vehicles.

A solid bar will then be constructed, with a track rod end at either end, to lock out the steering and allow adjustment of rear tracking.

A lot of box section will have to be welded to the floor pan, allowing the subframe to bolt straight in.

Exhaust will probably be mr2 or mgf, as these are small and include lots of silencing. Radiator will remain at the front, as will the battery, metal pipes will run under the car for collant.

A scoop will be constructed for the air intake, this will sit in the current fuel flap hole, kinda smart car stylie. Fuel tank will either be in the front or possible in the boot dependent on space.

Only point of concern is i dont know the width of track of an audi 80, i can lose a couple inches but if its lots wider i think the polo will look a little daft with the wheels poking out that far!

Any suggestions/comments on these ideas? Need to collate as much info as possible.

Good on for thinking about tempting a transplant like this ! However the 2.8 lump by todays standards is not that powerful or torquey if I remember correctly its only 174bhp and under 200lbft and going to be alot heavier than the Polos engine. If your going to do it slap in a S4 lump !!

I would have thought it would be better to use the rear suspension setup off a Syncro Golf G60/Country model. I beleave the GTi is the same track as a MK2 Golf which would be smaller than a Audi 80, you can certainly use the rear anti roll bar off a MK2 Golf on MK3 Ibiza Cupra which shares the same chassis as the Polo.

Done some more research. The engine's nothing like the vr6. its actually a v6 with 2 seperate heads. Still produces 174bhp though. I think that should be sufficient to do doughnuts!

Mk2 syncro rear suspension is based with a diff at the rear, due to the car being front enginged. I dont want the engine up front so wouldnt work i'm afraid.

Measured the back end of my car today, dont knw whether there'll be enough room lengthways for a longitudinally mounted engine and box, so may have to go transverse.

Cheers for the input though :D

You could always supercharge it !, what I ment with the rear suspension was that rather than having the front suspension which is designed to steer, is have the rear syncro setup suspension bits on each side but use drive shafts on it to the gearbox at the back rather than the rear diff in a normal setup. I'm pretty sure this is the setup they used with the Golf with a VR6 in the front and one in the back.
