RWD v6 beast anyone?

Post by vdubit »

Randomly decided at the weekend i wanted to respray the car. Thought i'd sort some of the bodywork first. So now i have a smooth rear bumper and I have welded the holes for the rubbing strips on both doors and rear quarters. I also removed the crappy foam glue left behind the rubbing strips. Jees it takes ages!

This weekend gotta do front bumper and if I have time extend the rear arches by at least an inch to accomodate the rather wide rear tyres i have.

I'm then moving to the tailgate. I've already done the easy mission of de-wipering it. I'm still undersided as to whether to get rid of just the badge, or the handle as well. I don't trust solenoids as I've had so many of them fail on me in the past (the convertible has no handles. Anywhere)
As I intend to de-lock the doors I'm gonna need an emergancy way in.

Thoughts please...?

Sounds Good. You doing the work yourself? How about Audi Door Handles? Look forward to seeing pics when its done. De-Rub stripping is'nt taken on by many!

Yeah doing all the work myself including the spraying. Will take some pics later and keep updating them.

I'd love A6 handles and a proper TT filler cap, but there kinda big missions for me to take on myself. Might get someone to do the handles though. They also costs loads which is putting me off!

Nice one, you must have some skills there. Im sure I've seen the handles for £50 or so, Maybe it was Venom Motorsports.

Good Luck with the Project

Got no skills at all. I like to know i've done everything myself so i try my hardest. Resprayed the convertible myself and came out fine and that was flip paint. Also rebuilt the engine completely and didnt have a clue what i was doing! (It still dont run mind you...!)

Cheers bud

Just rubbed down the filler for the first time. Will prob need another coat but cant see as its pitch black out there!

Also, forgot to mention I gotta fit a new wing, my drivers one has a minor dent in it. Oh, and i got some skirts too. There not your normal ones, there brand new, genuine seat ibiza cupra ones. Very chunky and roundy. A bit too long (bizzarre i thought?!?) and need some trimming here and there, but will look well nice when there on.

Piccys...

Image
Why the wing needs changing

Image
1 (of 18 ) welded up rubbing strip hole

Image
De-wipered and all holes welded.

Image
Image
The smooth rear bumper. Needs another light skimming of plastic filler. Not quite perfect but getting there.

Image
How to trash £5k's worth of car in one evening!

Image
This is why I'm gonna extend my arches. Those tyres scrub like crazy

Couple random ones...

Image
Car is a lot lower than it looks. It actually got stuck here (sat on the sills) We had to lift it off

Image
Proof you can spray a car with a £20 spray gun and no bodyshop knowledge!

Will hopefully finish the rubbing strips tommorrow and possibly the rear bumper. Will update...

yeh i was thinkin, just change the tyres, but i suppose in your eyes, extendin the arches is the cheaper option eh!
