Yes, if it's the wrong frequency, pairing will not succeed.

Ok, will fit it all and back up/ restore settings and try and pair them.
I am struggling to understand how a UK T6 would be on the 315 frequency when the UK market is mainly 434. Which is where your statement about the odd/even seems to make sense to me.
Either way when it’s not raining here in the UK I’ll try it and report back.

I have consulted with the masters of the universe and after having a good time telling urban legends and laughing out loud, I want to inform you without any speculation that the BCM 7E0937090 C has the correct frequency for your T5, it is 434 MHz.
If it were 315 MHz the reference number would be 7E0937
190 C.
Keep in mind that the masters of the universe also make mistakes from time to time, but these mistakes are only reserved for joking with me, which I think is fantastic because I prefer their bad boy tricks instead of me having to always do the same things.
I take this opportunity

to remind the masters of the universe that I have not yet won the lottery and that it is convenient for it to happen because I am already reaching a point where I will no longer be happy if I win the lottery (too many laps in the sun

Thanks for the explanation, I will read again, but I am struggling to understand why those 2 wires are loose and not in the connector block? When in one wiring diagram they are in the red connector.
Because to me it seems like the T17/9 and T17/16 connect to 4 wires, 2 going to the new T10 auto light switch and 2 new ones going to the BCM.
EDIT
Think it just hit me... those 2 wires from the T17 block go directly to the 2 pin plug, and the new wires added in are the ones that connect the T10 switch pins to where they need to go.
Yes/no?
T17/9 is the output from the light switch to the rear fog light. Yes? yes.
- is removed from T17 and connected to the new wire coming from T73a/6 ->
BCM Max output for rear fog light.
T17/16 is the light switch output signal 58 that powers various devices including license plate lights. Yes? yes.
We need to isolate this wire from the rest of the devices that it powers but in turn we need it to power the license plate lights.
- is removed from T17 and connected to the new wire coming from T73b/7 ->
BCM Max output for license plate lights.
Other new wires in the wiring adaptation will do the functions of signal 58 for the rest of the devices previously fed from T17/16.
Among others,
- the new '
single' wire running from the red connector to T73a/45 ->
BCM Max input for 58 signal.
- the new wire that goes from T73b/4 (
BCM Max 58 signal output) to T6/3 of the interior lights regulator (dimmer).
Originals T73a/45 and T6/3 must be
isolated witn cloth tape (eg.).
---
You must clearly differentiate between two parts, one is the wiring adaptation for the BCM Max, and the other is the wiring for automatic lights.
The union of these two parts with the red coupling makes the BCM
receive the activation signals and
send the power signals according to the indicated instructions, that is, according to BCM coding.

Nothing to worry about, you can do the BCM swap now.
Intermittent faults could be due to temporary causes.
Clears all DTCs and checks if they return or are cleared.

Brilliant thanks, will look into the AC fault at some point.
Do I need to do the 2 extra CAN wires for this BCM upgrade to be a success? Or is that part only when I come to retrofit the adaption and auto headlights?
EDIT
Yes I do
CAN lines
Essential when you upgrade to the following BCM Max.
7H0937090D, 7E0937090 /B/C... (I'm talking about the 434/3 Mhz used in Europe and other places, for the 315Mhz the Ref. number will be different)
Need to wait for my delivery of terminals and wires before I can fit the BCM

Greetings all,
I am very excited to have stumbled across this thread, it has answered so many questions!
A bit of background, I own two vans, a 2011 Transporter T5.1 and a 2012 Caravelle T5.1. I did own a 9N Polo once as well so hopefully I'll be allowed to stay.
When I first bought the Transporter I wanted to add cruise control and MFSW. Unfortunately my BCM was 086 suffix so I needed to upgrade, however 087 ones were very expensive so I tried with an 089 one from a Seat Ibiza which was much cheaper (7H0937089F). I was sensible and took details of my coding before, but the new BCM wouldn't accept the old coding so I had to manually change it and make it work. I eventually got everything working except the interior lights, and the cruise control has never worked. I now know for sure that I will need to add the extra can wires and power wires, this is no problem for me as I'm an electrical/electronic engineer and have done similar before. Just not as good as ciclo

Hopefully after adding the extra wires the cruise will work - I believe all the settings are enabled in VCDS and it 'sees' me pressing the buttons on the stalk, all the extra wiring was installed with a pre-made kit as well. I may be in touch for some assistance with my coding as there are still some errors present I believe relating to door sensors. I'm not too interested in auto headlights for this one, as I fitted the Chinese switch which seems to work ok (but not perfect)
I recently bought the Caravelle. This already comes with the rain/light sensor fitted and auto dimming mirror. I want the auto headlights OEM style for this one, so I will be making the loom as detailed in this post at some point. This Caravelle has 087 BCM from the factory, so I will be looking to upgrade this too. I may swap it for the 089 in my other Transporter, not sure yet. If I can get another 089/090 for a good price I may just do that, as the 087 will sell for a good price to pay for all these upgrades

In the future I will also be adding MFSW and paddle shift to this Caravelle, it has the lovely colour screen display and the Kenwood radio already connected to canbus as it displays parking sensors/climate control settings. I imagine these wires will be missing but I've already done that job on the other Transporter so no problems with doing that.
Thank you in advance for any support and I will keep updating with my progress.

Welcome TheKeymeister, come in and get ready to have a good time with us.
With the BCM 'Max' 7
H0937089F it is NOT necessary to add CAN lines for the instrument cluster (IC from now on). This BCM/GW model manages the IC through the powertrain CAN lines (arranged like this in your two T5s).
With this BCM 7H0937089F the interior lights work through pin T73b/1, ... instead of pin T73b/4, which is not present on this BCM 7H0937089F, ... T73b/4 is for newer PQ25 BCM models, 2013 ->.
This BCM 7H0937089F and according to your upgrade expectations it should work perfectly on either of your two T5.1s.
The BCM 087 from your 2012 Caravelle T5.1 would be perfect for your 2011 T5.1 according to your upgrade expectations.
In your 2012 Caravelle T5.1 and according to your upgrade expectations, it would be necessary to adapt the wiring for BCM Max and manufacture the wiring for automatic lights regardless of the BCM Max you install (7H0 or 7E0).
You already have the correct BCMs for all the upgrades you want to retrofit based on your introduction, there is no reason why they shouldn't get everything working correctly.

Good morning,
So if I understand correctly, the only work I should need to do in my Transporter to fix the lights is to move T73b/4 to T73b/1? As for the other errors/faults/cruise not working, I suspect this is my bad coding, a lot of guesswork went into it. I am almost certain I have the long coding from the old BCM stored somewhere, and I can do a full scan with the current 089 one fitted to see what's going on.
I'll do this work first before touching the Caravelle just in case of any unexpected problems. Again, if I'm understanding correctly, I'll have to do the same pin move for the Caravelle interior lights, and the extra wiring for the headlight control etc, just not the new can wires to the instrument cluster.
Thank you!

Exactly.
The BCM 7H0937089F, and others like the 089D, or 088x, are somewhat special in terms of the GW operating SW and how they are built (HW).
For 089 F, D it is not necessary to install the new IC CAN lines in your T5s.
The rest of the circumstances for which the systems you retrofit do not work are due to improper coding, wiring installation or previous faults.
Post the autoscans... in the Logs folder of the VCDS program you must have the autoscans you have done and saved.
---
The evolution of PQ25 BCM Max (approximately and quickly):
7H0:
- 089D, 089F. (with internal GW)
and here we can include those dedicated to vehicles with Bluemotion systems but with external GW.
6R0:
- 088B, 088F. (the so-called 'Re4')
The first evolutionary leap, (they can also manage Bluemotion systems without external GW, that is, with internal GW)
7H0:
- 090, 090A, 090B, 090D.
The second and great evolutionary leap,
7E0:
- 089x, 090 B, C, D, F ...
There are even evolutions in the SW of all of them.
I do not comment on the dates of evolution because it also depends on the place on the planet where they were installed.
When retrofitting any of these BCM Max there are little details to keep in mind.

So I had some time today to have a play with the Transporter. There was a slight error in your info - it was T73
a/4 that needed moving to T73
a/1 (ie, the plug with the black shell), I have done this in a temporary manner as the terminals are a different size. This has however brought the interior lights back to life!

But it has also reminded me that the drivers door lock switch is faulty as the lights are on all the time. I'm fairly sure this is the problem as sometimes if I get inside the van through the drivers door and don't start it for a while, it locks itself. And also when I first got the van I now remember all the interior lights were actually switched off. Another job for the list to sort out...
Anyway, here's the details from my autoscans from before and after the BCM swap, the 'after' one is from just now. I am sure not all of the errors are from the BCM swap as I've done other work, including replacing the radio with an aftermarket one. I also added a towbar and did not use a dedicated wiring kit, I used a Teb7as bypass relay and I remember having to turn the van round with at least one rear light missing. I can do a re-scan after resetting codes and driving a little while if you like. I was unable to post them due to the filter thinking it was spam, so I have
posted it on pastebin here
As for the Caravelle, I think I will purchase a new BCM Max for it and leave the 089 one in the Transporter if I can get it working. I can get either 7H0937089F or 7H0937090 for exactly the same price, as you describe the 090 as the "first evolutionary leap" would this one be somehow better? I don't mind about adding extra wires etc as I will need to take it to bits anyway for the other wiring so a little bit more won't hurt. But if it's just able to manage Bluemotion itself and that's all, I am not too fussed as it will never have that fitted. Thanks in advance!

There is no mistake in my info.... I don't make mistakes.
T73b/1 or T73b/4 (the plug with the white shell) <-----------> T6/3 Dimmer.

Then we code the BCM in the correct way so that it works as it should ...
Just out of curiosity, who made so many changes to your BCM 089F coding compared to your BCM 086 coding?

There were no pins at all in T73b (white shell) from 1 to 12, T73a only had a cable in pin 4 and nothing else until pin 10. I did a bit of googling and there was mention of T73a/4 controlling interior lights on a T6, so gambled with that one instead in T73a/1 (I did use a test lamp before actually making the connection

), and hey presto, interior lights now work. I'm fairly confident it's actually right - although my drivers door lock is faulty, once the vehicle is locked the interior lights go out after 10 seconds or so now, whereas before they didn't work at all on the 'doors open' setting, only on 'permanent on'. I can put it back as it was, but there's no cable T73b/1 or T73b/4 at all...I have photos if you like.
The coding was done by me, with a lot of guess work. I tried copying the coding across from the 086 BCM and it wouldn't work, VCDS wouldn't accept it somehow, so I tried each bit in turn until one of them wouldn't work, but that was unsuccessful too from what I remember. I think in the end I went through each bit with the long coding assistant and ticked the things I thought I had! This was back in March so my memory is a little hazy...
