Like I say mate.
Ive raced the girlfriend when she got the Saxo, shes not a quick driver at all, I got off the line first, but she pulled away with no effort at all.
Its not a biast view, Im being honest.
I have both cars on my driveway, and hide the Saxo as far away as possable for obvious reasons.
Saying the 1.0mpi will beat a Saxo 1.1 isnt true buddy.
the Saxo is much quicker to 65.
As I say, in gear times in the Loop are much better, but then the 1.0mpi will only do 99mph or 101 down hill where as Ive had the Saxo up to 109mph.
These speeds are off the road angel, not off the Speedo, I know the Speedo shows its
faster than that

Not to disapoint anyone but i used to have a 1.0L Polo and my mates 1.1 106 absolutly thrashed it! The saxo 1.1 is the same car (but apparently have better engines) so should in theory also thrash a 1.0L polo. While i had my 1.0L it got broken into and i got a 1.0L 12V 60bhp corsa brand new and it was considerably quicker then my 1.0L polo. (hire car).
At the time i had my 1.0L polo, my 3 mates had:
1.2 SXI Corsa
1.1 106
1.2 Dynamique Clio
All of them absolutly pissed on my 1.0L sorry to dispoint, and i can hear you saying yeah but you might be a s**t driver etc etc, but we swopped cars and raced each other, same outcome! The polo is probably the heaviest out of all of it competitors and has less BHP.
If you lot beat 1.1L 106 etc they cudnt have been trying because i KNOW they are alot faster, by maybe 20%! I did 104MPH in my polo 1.0 and my mates 106 over took me and he had 3 passengers, my car was empty!

Think you hit the nail on the head there Phill. The Polo is quite simply the heavier car, and a 1.0-litre Polo simply won't beat a 1.1-litre Saxo or 106, unless the driver of the french car has their eye off the ball IMHO. Besides, if Tigz can't beat a 1.1 Saxo in his Loop, what chance do you have in the heavier-still Polo? At the end of the day though it's all a bit of fun, and when you do win at the traffic light grand prix in your 1.0-litre, it puts a smile on your face a mile wide

I know, just thought id mention a few good points, i felt guilty for slating the 1.0L a little. I had one once apon a time after all. Ironically it cost more then double to insure me on a 1.0L when i was 17 then it did to insure my GTi at 19...

The thing is, being so slow isn't so bad.
Every time I drive my 1.0 it brings a smile to my face.
More so than my Phase 1 19 16v does.
When its moving I can keep up with a lot faster cars.
And learning to drive a slow car fast gives you so much satisfaction.
Unless we're on a duel carragway on our convoys, no GTi has ever gotten away from me.
Im just careful what I race.
I only take on cars, I have no chance of beating.
Scoobys and BMW drivers are my favourate.
If you have to lose, its better to keep your pride.

you definitely hit the nail on the head there old lad.ive had a 106 and theyre not not a nice thing, the polo is the best of 99% of hatches of its era in comparison to engine size, model, etc etc etc.really good car in my opinion.

We'll never know.
The cars engineless atm.
Although, I'll love to test the theory out when the 1400 is in and set up.
Be intresting to see the diffrence the extra wieght of the Polo makes.
Is it true the Polo GTi weighs only 20kg less than the 1.6 mk4 Golf?
1200kg?
Was chatting to a guy at pod, who could only get 17 second 1.4 miles in his chipped Red polo GTi.
Someone made the suggestion about the weight issue.
Any truth in that?

No idea, someone on here gets 16.1 1/4 mile in there unchipped polo gti...

Oh and the guy that was getting 17's car was f****d, something wrong with the chip apparently, he ran faster times without the chip! According to VW a 1.4 16v 100bhp lupo will do 10.0seconds 0-60 where as the Polo GTi is 8.4...

Weight makes a big differnce.
I have a Diesel polo (64bhp) and my mate has a 1998 seat ibiza 1.4 (60bhp) my car is 100kg heavier (inc sub and weight of engine) and he can just edge away from me!
