Changing the tyres will make a massive difference, and save you a lot of cost
I believe that the rims are ET30. The tyres above are 195/45/15 Goodyear Eagles!

I looked for 185-profile rubber online and could only find Nankangs. Does that sound right or are there other brands available too?

Yeh you can only get Nankangs in 185s. I think they're great tyres, got them on both my Monos and Pepperpots.

It would be a lot cheaper to go down that route as appose to flaring and pulling yours arches.

If you want to get it done properly you'd be most likely looking at having to respray the panel after the arch work, meaning you'd have to blend/spray the surrounding panels, leaving you with both full sides of your car sprayed. When you look at it like that you may as well contemplate a full respray.

It gets silly, which I why I decided to leave mine. you could risk a cheeky roll, but the paint may well still crack.

Actually thinking about it, you wouldn't even need to get them flared, as mine are 8j ET25 and they still tuck the arch JUST with 185s. So if you go through with arch work, I'd just go with the roll. Keep in mind this won't help the front either, as the main point of catch is where the front bumper meets the wing, and this point doesn't roll.

Ah yes, the story of the "other wheels".....

Remember these?

Image

I had them refurbished in a Subaru gold/bronze colour and only then found out they are in fact not the expected VW centre bore fitment  so now, they are looking like this and officially, are up for sale!

Image

BUT unofficially I am toying with the idea of keeping them and getting them refinished in anthracite as per my original plan and popping them on the car in place of the G60s, which need some TLC. I found a seller on eBay with some spigot rings to fit these 60.1mm (jap fitment) rims and make them a VW friendly 57.1mm. Can get them for about a tenner!

What do you reckon?

Also... any ideas on colours? The colour change is because one wheel was damaged in storage and is missing some paint. Otherwise all the wheels are straight and true! Tempting to be stupid and do them something like lime green or neon pink

Ah that sucks that you had them refurbed and they haven't even seen the car before getting refurbed again. I'd go with the spigot rings and anthracite definitely mate.

Ordered an early Christmas present for the Polo yesterday... being imported from outside the UK as they are rare enough to not be held in stock in the UK by VW. Can't say much more until the parts arrive but they should be here by the weekend

Just for a change, its not wheel-related content!!

That would be sweet, wouldn't it! With a pressed metal plate, for shows and events, that reads "Si_GTi" to go in the Jap-spec recess
