something like this?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125851329540 ... R6qBmZO4Yg

this looks slicker than mine but mine has temperature too.. can't find the original seller ...yet.

Installed the DVM monitor a week ago and did 2 ~ 60 mile day time round trips since, the voltage goes to 14.8V for around 30 secs or so after each start and then returns to a rock steady 13.2V once under way, it goes to exactly 14.8V on each and every overrun once the revs are ~ > 1200RPM, will keep an eye on it to see does the ambient temperature has any effect on the charging levels.

My DVM in the 12 socket never displays the same reading as directly off the battery (I have a calibrated meter and similarly tested the DVM and I know the slight undervalue reported voltage from it (0.5 volt under)

I think the car's computer does some fancy rationing when charging the battery or car at rest... Even my ObDEleven app always reports higher values at rest but only to tenth of a volt accuracy.. which means a 12.4v reading could actually be 12.41 or closer to 12.49v .. 12.49 would just one tenth of a volt off from displaying 12.5v.

I'm going to give the OCD a rest now and just drive the thing... as long as it goes high after starting the car I'll be happy. :D

Your 12V sockets are probably powered by a relay or some other switch construction. That means the voltage directly at the battery will be different than at the 12V outlet.
And depending on make, model and quality, the reading might be different anwyay in the 12V socket measurement tool.

Yes I know that is the case as I have measured battery vs socket with a calibrated meter and the socket is always lower voltage than the battery.

I have not tested the differences when running yet and may do another comparison; I'm not in a hurry to test that LOL

VAG reckon that useful battery life is ~ 50 X battery capacity, in my case 50*59 = 2950AH so depending on which value below is used, my battery life is either 2950/2187*4.583, 6.18 years or 2950/2342.2*4.583, 5.8 years, watch this space.

Strange one today, noticed that the DVM was showing full charging at 14.7V for approx 1 hour today with continuous town driving, normally this only happens for 30 sec or so after starting and on overrun. Readings below show nothing amiss, the battery charge level showes 80% which one might expect after high voltage charging for a hour or so, its normally 73% to 75%.
After taking the readings below and starting the engine, it charged at 14.9V (VCDS) with charging current of ~ 17/19A for around 44 secs after starting up and then fell as normal back to normal.

Wow that was high for quite some time!

The scan was useful to do.
And get an actual fault discovered. The problem for me would be who to take the vehicle too as I have little confidence with local VW franchise. I had been talking to a friend who found a specialist locally who services his Mercedes and anything else

My local indy is good for servicing and repairs, etc but openly told me that is his limit.. an honest man.. who would belive it.

Let us know how you get on please.

The full fault code is below, I'd say it was flagged ~ 5 weeks ago but the constant high voltage charging only occured for that 1 hour period a few days ago, the car was parked up for 8 days until last Thursday and had been parked for the same period shortly before that, I allways test the Stop/Start after any prolonged parking period and it operated perfectly after driving the statutory 0.5km or so to enable it, will keep a eye on it.

Took a few more readings this evening after start up, car parked, only electrical load were the DRLs
The charging pattern is certainly changing with more time now running at ~ 14.7V and charging current falling to ~ 5A after ~ 5 minutesso maybe I will just monitor it.
It may eventually settle at a constant 14.4V like the constant charging on all my old VWs everlasting batteries but I wouldn't hold my breath.

19:31:57 Stopped
IDE01834 Battery voltage 12.107 V
IDE01836 Battery current -4.418 A (DRLs)

Engine then switched off and immediately back on, voltage fell to ~ 13.39V and remained there. (see below)

wow that seems very high

what is it like after the surface voltage used ?

main beam for 5 minutes?

Monitored it this AM with my DVM so maybe add 0.1/0.2V to my readings, I had the headlights on + the HRS on speed2 so a reasonable load, I just stopped the car and the stop/start shut down the engine.
+30 secs after shutdown 11.8V, +1min,11.4V, +2min,11.3V, +3min,11.2V, +3.5min 11.2V, (4 min after shutdown) engine restarted and remained at 13.2V for 3 mins, at which time I switched off.
I think this charging frequency is possibly normal enough, if I didnt have this DVM plugged in all the time then all signs are that batteryis doing what its supposed to do. Anyone with a DVM plugged in permanently might observe their charging pattern, and of course it also displayes the interior temperature, how many cars display this?.

I think mine is not dissimilar as in what seems to me to charging strangely (to me at least)

I notice sometimes that with the engine running the voltage on the DVM is 12v after going to 14.1 from start up or anywhere in between.. LOL
