The only difference between the new and old pedal box is that the old one had weak welds in the clutch part of the pedal box.
So, my dealer told me that the part I just had replaced "looks exactly the same as the one that came out". Hmmm. OK, so I'm not convinced anythings been done to make my car safer then cos the parts look exactly the same as the dealer stated
I spoke to customer service about this today.
How do we (the customer) know that the replacement part Pedal Box that is being fitted is a newly modified one?
How can we be sure the VW dealer is not just fitting one from stock or from their usual parts suppliers? Apparently the VW Dealer should be ordering the recall parts direct from VW (UK) Parts.
I have to presume my dealer has done this, but if they can't tell me what the difference is with the new and old Brake Pedal Box part when comparing them, then why should I believe that I have a newly modified pedal box now fitted
Good points raised and relayed to Customer Services. They are going to find out some answers and let me know.
It could be that the whole process to replace the pedal boxes is seriously flawed if the VW Dealer is not following the details in the VW literature on this.

Let's hope not, else we'll all have to go in again to have it all done again.
Oh, and my hand brake didn't work when I picked it up and it's illegal to drive without a working hand brake, so I have another courtesy car for tomorrow - VW Polo 53 model 1.2 Petrol - still rattles like a diesel! How I long for my GTI

I got a call from my dealers today saying that I can't take my car in on Friday to have the work done as they've found that a clip breaks when changing the pedal box and that they've run out of stock of the clips.
So... I think the guy who's buying my car will have to get this sorted himself. Bit of a pain as I wanted to get it all sorted before he bought it.

Are there any physical external signs that we can look for as proof the replacement has been done?
The new Part Number

VW Customer Service called me and advised the way to check that a new Pedal box has been fitted is to ask the dealer if the replacement part has "6X" in the number. Check this before it's fitted. If it does not, then it's not a modified weld strengthened Pedal Box - avoid and get them to order a VW Pedal Box with 6X in it.

Thanks to Ann in VW Customer Service.

Damn, should have read the last post before going to the dealer's tonight...I too have suffered from the broken clip issue and now my car is in the dealer in bits.
I rang to VW to complain to say how could you do a recall and leave out on of the bits required to complete the work of the list...they said that some dealers have managed to fit them without breaking the clip and that if the dealer had done the job properly it should not break...great news, even VW themselves admit that they have not done a proper job!
Got a TDI Bora to play with whilst the car is whith them, they do pack a bit of a punch, I was pleasantly surprised...just the noise is a bit too much for my likely!
God knows when they get the part in, I hope it won't take too long, don't like the idea of my car in bits at a dealer...

I got the 6X pedal box and my centre console and handbrake works too now after going back again - slight misalignment problem when they put the centre console back in again.
Anyway, I checked it out at home and not too much missing. Few dashboard screws as there's no lugs they can screw into too... hmmm maybe it was like this before I took it in?!?!? - Nope, guess it wasn't. Will call about some more screws tomorrow then.
And, the drivers side A/C pipes under the dash had somehow disappeared. So, I take the lower dash out and move the wiring around and presto, the A/C pipes are now in the right place.
Now would you think a VW dealer would check things like the handbrake working and the A/C pipes are blowing out air in the right places before giving the car back if they removed the dashboard and the steering column??? Perhaps it's just me being too fussy

re GTI_GIRL question as I wanted to know this too

I have not been able to get any straight answers from anyone about this in VW or the dealers, so I think I'll need to get under the car and check myself at some time.
If the external paintwork/underseal is damaged from removal of the old pedal box and steering column, then I'll be getting some colour coded hammerite to paint over them so the rust doesn't set in as the resin based underseal will be compromised.

Brakes on

Since my pedal box replacement last week, I noted a slight dip in power (occasionally). When I checked around the car today, it seems the brake pedal is not returning to the normal position. The brakes seem to be staying on - the cable is getting stuck perhaps???
I checked the front and rear disks - the front were extremely HOT! The rears were warm.
So, it seems the pedal box replacement has introduced another problem where the brake pedal ossasionally sticks down and the brakes stay on.
Now I am getting to the point where I'm thinking this car and VW dealerships are much more trouble than it's worth in keeping it!

I will perservere though as I do enjoy driving this car when I have it

well, the car drives much better it seems, no problems with the dash or anything, the clutch is nice and tightened up and easy to depress. The only thing is they've had to change the brake pedal apparently, this is what they broke when they were doing the safety recall, I've got a whole new brake pedal, any1 else had this too ?
Mine's done

Well, had mine done - took 2 days exactly, as they said.
Doesn't feel hugely different -
The clutch is still hard but its 'hard' rather than stiff - if that makes sense (i.e. if feels more gradual now). Biggest difference was the brake pedal - or maybe i got used to the hire cars brakes?
Gear stick still moves around in 4th......which brings me on to this - good parts and bad parts between Polo GTi and Hire Car Polo 1.2 (probably half the list price):
Gti gearbox - "by wire" - very poor, new polo back to normal - how nice!
new polo 3 cylinder engine - yeuch, like a diesel.
new polo "lane changing indicators" - nice touch.
Gti wipers - how can they be any more basic? - only 1 intermitent level? - my 10 year old Golf even had programmable wipers.
new polo storage - did they build the car then realise "ooh we'd better put some storage in it" - there's useless bits everywhere....
new polo chair moving handle - perfectly placed to damage your achilles!
think thats enough for now.
