battery charging

Post by Tahrey1043 »

right, being sat on the drive in very cold weather, the polo's battery is not holding any kind of usable charge. I can get it going with a jump off another car and let it run on five minutes or so, that it will have sufficient oomph to just about fire over the next 24-48 hours, but after that it's gone again (there's a small drain from the stereo, but in the order of 0.1W - never been a problem for up to 2 weeks non moving before). Can't really leave it sitting there idling for long periods to charge it up, obviously the thing needs a good, proper, day-and-a-half charge off the mains.

Got a battery charger in the garage but no instructions with it. Anyone know how to work it?

I'm guessing red wire to red wire, black to black, but beyond that, no clues... safety precautions, when to turn it off, any settings needing ot be altered etc

cheers ;)

Red - red, black - black, plug in, leave for 15 hours or so, unplug.
If you have a fancy one it'll have a switch for automatic or standard charging.. automatic just turns itself off when it reaches the right charge level, may as well use that really. No safety precautions other than don't leave it on more than 24 hours or so, and don't fry yourself when you connect it up. Pretty simple other than that :)
