Yeah, they've been importing mk1's for ages. There was one on ebay a couple of weeks ago, 1.3, only went for about £550..
I can't see why it wouldn't be a good thing really.. classic golf for people who don't have the time to restore/maintain an actual classic golf.

IMHO its a good thing, if a "new" Golf Mk1 is your thing! It'd make a good base for a project but I'm happy with my Polo :)

seen a few private import one localy ,wouldn't it be nice if they did the mk1 polo again

yeh, but no one would buy one because most people are so used to the nasty-horrible euro and jap boxes that are so common now - probably one of the reasons not many citi-golfs are getting sold too, which is a shame really

probably something to do with the decidedly sub-average fuel economy too :D more like what a modern 2.0 or 2.5 litre would use.

still pretty cool, i'd have one in Mercato blue and stuff the costs.

and a brand new brazilian/mexican VW camper, to boot.
(an aircooled engine with multipoint injection? they need to lay off the tequila methinks)
