squealing noise from rear?

Hello all
Any ideas on the following;?
After a while from cold i'm getting an intermittent squealing noise from the rear (i think) which seems to have got worse. I'm guessing wheel bearings but should they start to play up after 32K?, if it is, is the rear assembly similar to a mk2 golf gti? (haynes manual on order).

Any suggestions appreciated, only had it a week!

Might help a bit - OK it's slightly different if you have discs on the back but same principle applies

It seems to be the rear pads making the noise. I stripped the assembly down taking the pads off and cleaned any flakey paint rust/dust off, applied lots of copper grease and its quieter but still making a bit of a squeal when warmed up.
Anyone else had this at all?

Si.
