GTi Windscreen Washer

Post by andyg »

These past few weeks I've noticed when I use my windscreen washer the car stinks. The water smells so bad that it comes into the car though the cabin air intake. I had a look inside the washer bottle and it looks pretty manky in there, I dont know why cause i ALWAYS use plenty of windscreen washer fluid.

Now the question, does anyone know of a quick way of cleaning the thing without taking the bottle out? Something i can put in maybe that wont mash up my paintwork. Or failing that has anyone taken out the water bottle in the GTi, could you tell me how?

I might buy a new water bottle but knowing VW it will be about £300, and then the pipes will still be smelly.

help guys, smells like someone forced a dead rat into my washer bottle!

Seems odd, perhaps try syphoning the water out with a piece of pipe and replacing it with fresh and ensure using correct ratio of water:screenwash

Maybe also replace the pollen filter in your car to help with any smells

Washing Up liquid

Yep, this works for me. It's a detergent to will get rid of blockages and smells. Mind, it makes for a frothy jet spray, but it only lasts for a while until you spray this all out the bottle.

i had the same problem - found i only get it when using the halfords premixed stuff. rinsed it out with hot water and some flash, don't use halfords stuff anymore and that seems to have solved the problem.
