Picked up my new car today
Just picked up my new 1994 GT coupe this afternoon. I drove it home from southend to coventry with a massive grin on my face. I'm only used to driving a 1L. What a major power gain. The only problem I've been having is using the 5th gear. I'm not use to it, never had one on my car before. Its like a luxuary. Once its stopped raining I'll try and take some photo and post on here.

just be sure as all hell not to get your orientation messed up and accidentally hit 3rd! (either when going for 5th... or for 1st!)
5th is lully, just watch out in case you have to go back to a 4sp that you can still change MENTAL gears between the two ways of operating!
*tries to pull off in 3rd... oops*

I've done that once but in a slightly larger car - flat out in 4th approaching the limiter about 135mph having a bit of fun with a scooby quick thump and into 5th - sheeeeeeete where did all that engine braking come from and why is my tacho needle now bent - ah that'll be third then......doug&dan wrote:yeah tis true, luckily haven't done that yet![]()
i am being careful putting it into 5th for that very reason!
I worked it out to be 8900 rpm in third at that speed - the engine was fine - the gearbox however suffered a little
I still have the pictures of the gearbox when I stripped it down to see why I only had 3 very dogy gears to get home with.... (in case anyone is interested 1st 2nd and 4th - fifth was gone as well as 3rd and reverse well lets just say it's hard to push a 1800 kg car with no reverse)
Any way it stripped every single tooth of the gears that went
In my old four-speed Uno, I once dropped down from fourth to third and forgot to change back up! Engine was so revvy anyway, never noticed anything undue (stereo was too loud to hear anything...). Eventually (50 or so miles later, as I was on a long journey), it started to miss. Finally realised what was going on and discovered in due course that I'd worn the points almost completely away!! Still, easy fix to replace the distributor cap and rotor arm...
Deek.
Deek.

lol - those wicked FIRE engines, made out of granite and lead, surely.
i've had a ride from a mate like that...... girl who's just got her shiny new automatic boxed (motability - long story) and frighteningly fast motor a month or two earlier... stick's arranged a bit differently to how the old one was, so when moving off, she slams it into "3" without a thought and off we go, from the east side of stafford off to another pal's place in manchester.
neither of us noticed (its quite quiet, especially with the radio on) ..... until we joined onto the m69 from the m6 and something in my head flagged up that it didnt change "back" up when she lifted off (after caning it more noisily off the sliproad into the traffic - shes not got any "no fear" stickers but deserves several) and took a look at the stick & revcounter
er... you know you're in 3rd gear right?
(wonder how long she'd been driving it like that?)
an, I tell ya what, the 6 speed in the Vaux Monaro looks a bit iffy - I thought it had a 5 at first --- 6th is up and *right*! That's one to take VERY carefully 4th to 5th, I think! crazy ozzies..

Thought it was the same gearbox in that as in my LC and 6th is below 5th in a conventional double H gate - Reverse well thats a little differentTahrey1043 wrote:an, I tell ya what, the 6 speed in the Vaux Monaro looks a bit iffy - I thought it had a 5 at first --- 6th is up and *right*!
