SIDE AIRBAGS GOING OFF!!!

Post by Uk_Polo_GTI »

Right, i was driving down a straight road at 2.30 in the morning going to the petrol station when both SIDE AIRBAGS deploying hitting my right arm causing me to steer off the road! went straigh up the kerb and was heading for a large post my brakes wernt working! so i tried my hardest to get the car back on the road! by strugling to steer to the right! then i got back on the road and hit the island and damaged my side of the car buckleing my wheels and taking a chunk of alloy out of it! neway i couldnt steer and had no brakes so i rolled to a stop in the middle of the road!!!! and after i found my break disk shatterd down the road! i was doing roughtly bout 40mph at the time and it was raining and thurdering with lightening at the time! IS THIS WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN WITH SIDE AIRBAGS!!! My car is a complete write off! there was no damage to the side of my car!

Yesterday i contacted Volkswagen UK as my dealer has changed and tamperd with my seats in the past, VW uk said they was going to send someone out to have a look and write a technical report as to why they deployed for no reason! then they rang me earlier at 4 and said they wernt going to send someone out! My car is at my dealer! and they told me my dealer will do the report! so i went down to my dealer and they said the dont have the eqipment to do the report and its not posible for the side airbags to deploy unless being hit by a side impact! Vw uk wont get involved cause my dealer has touched my seats and my dealer says its to do with VW uk so im :? to whats going on! one of them are to blame! as its a safety issue! otherwise i would just claim through my insurance but VW dont want to admit there is! they wont even come out to check the data on the black box! i have looked up this situation on the internet and this is a common thing with the GOLF GTI AND BORA'S 2001-2003 models in america with the airbags deploying with no impact! has anyone had this problem! or could give me any advice? Thanks dan

To be honest, you clearly need to let the dealership who fiddled with your care know how angry you are about the situation. If it where me id not only ask them todo a report on the car but demand they do it or you will see them in court, imagine if this had happened at 70mph on a motorway or worse on a bridge????

I might be wrong but I would just say to them, your garage has worked on my airbags recently and now they have randomly gone off, you either sort this out immediatly or you will have no choice but to take legal action. My dad had problems with his audi A4 and we soon found out that if you give up a big enough fuss in the showroom they will bend over backwards to resolve your issues to avoid other people finding out about it.

I bet they wouldnt be too pleased if people thinking of buying a VW where to hear that there is a chance that there airbags could randomly go off? I know i wouldnt!!

Speak to the garage again then a solicitor tbh?

airbag going off

Post by dave-h »

that is an absoloutly horrendous story and for the manufacture and main dealer to turn there back on you beggers belief. They obviously dont believe your story.Have you kept receipts or logs that were done on your car.You could need these as evidence.I know you must be upset and dont want to patronise you but you have to stand back and consider your
options.1. do you go to the news papers. Main dealers do not like bad
press.2. Citizens advice. give them a ring.3.Insurance.Check to see if you have legal cover.4. Home Insurance policies can now carry legal cover. 6 Go to a solicitor you here them advertised on the radio free this and that.7. Write a letter first (not a snotty one) and if they wont do the assessment ask for an independent one The AA would be brilliant are you in the AA?Remember the main stealers work for the Manufacture are you honestly going to get a non jugemental report.I have had a similar problem and the best advice i was given was if you lose your temper you have lost your case.I wish you the best of luck.

Get as much evidence as you can off the net about this issue with the side airbags, GO to CAB and start proceedings against them, the dealer at fault is not the people you want looking into it, this is a serious issue and it's butt kicking time.

Parhaps he didnt mean no breaks in a literal sence? He described a storm, could this not suggest that he had no breaking power?

My dad seems to think that if you goto VW they will be able to check to see if the sensor for the airbag was used to deploy it. Only thing is this might have been damaged in the crash(s).

If they are being so unhelpful at the garage all you need to do is take it higher and higher until you get someone that sorts it out. Mentioning that there staff didnt want to help and seemed incompetent normally goes down a treat! hehe!

I think the reason they are messing you around is because they think that you are making it up and are trying to make u think twice about blaming them.
