New GTi owner..ish

Post by Roper »

hello everyone :D

Picked up a GTi for the Mrs on saturday and just thought id say hi and review what i thought of it driving home. I have to say for the first time ever driving a VW I'm impressed, and so glad she didn't get a 106, i realised pretty quick how bad the build quality really is compared, and pretty much fell for it straight away.

Anyways, she has everything but leather (i think  :? ), climate control, leather wheel and knob, red belts and door cards and looks tidy with a nice clean engine bay :D and was impressed when i drove it. the noise polos seem to make is awesome, but discreetly quiet at the same time, nice, and the handling made me want to throw it into turns. couldn't get used to the buttons to change the heaters etc tho, lol! So after playing with all the gadgets i could find (and the many many compartments here and there!) and listening to her purr i turned on the stereo, and wow   i could not believe the standard of the stock system!

Smiling more and more as we were making our way home it started getting dark, so on came the trick lights and wicked dials, which is always good as you gotta stare at them alot, so i thought the polo was an excellent overall package.

I found that because the engine was quiet when accelerating it didn't seem long until hitting 80/90mph with boot down. I have a Civic and although not as quick as that in a straight line around corners I reckon it’d match it before I’d hit into VTEC.

No bad points really, gotta decide whether to refurb the wheels for her or just buy a new set, and what lowering setup to go for.

Any ideas/opinions appreciated, thanks

Damn that was a long post!

Welcome......

Nice car.

Refurb the wheels yourself - there is a guide in the MKIV forum but I intend to do a better one as I do Dubpolo's wheels

Carefull lowering with just springs 40mm is max to be honest

If you want to slam it then it has to be coilovers

If you do it yourself and don't get the centres refurbed - most are pretty good to be honest

Tyres off (& replaced with new valves and balanced up when you've done the rims) allow £30 - don't try to do it with the tyres on or the valve in situ - it's bloody hard to get a decent finish on the edge of the rim

Polishing kit - allow £25

Assorted wet and dry - £10

Alloy Polish - £5 for a tube

Blood sweat and tears - well thats free

Any help?
