i presume u have a mk5, 1.4 TDI 75hp

s'what i thought

i can only imagine the economy would suffer though

the gti would have the edge on acceleration from 0 and with top speed though

from 0, surely it depends how vicious you are with slipping the clutch? :D

maybe you could have a switchable mode chip put in that would crank the idle speed up a bit to remove both the diesel and the turbo lag...

(done deliveries in a diesel van, went like the clappers once rolling, but was hellish to get moving because of the almost binary clutch.. you'd either bark the tyres something rotten and look like a right herbert, or get bogged down at 1200rpm going nowhere... oh if only it was more easily slippable)

the economy, hmmm ...... well the diesel-cycle heat engine 8) is at its most efficient under full load / full acceleration, so it might not be as bad as all that...

you just have to get used to the "throttle lag." My TDI was pretty quick off the line and even better once moving. I don't think that chipping a diesel causes a big difference in fuel consumption (it may even improve if the map is "better")
