how much does this cane economy?
would a mk5 tdi give a gti a run for its money once its rolling?

from 0, surely it depends how vicious you are with slipping the clutch? 
maybe you could have a switchable mode chip put in that would crank the idle speed up a bit to remove both the diesel and the turbo lag...
(done deliveries in a diesel van, went like the clappers once rolling, but was hellish to get moving because of the almost binary clutch.. you'd either bark the tyres something rotten and look like a right herbert, or get bogged down at 1200rpm going nowhere... oh if only it was more easily slippable)

is at its most efficient under full load / full acceleration, so it might not be as bad as all that...
