Turbos... Anyone help?
Turbos... Anyone help?
I drove a 1.4 TDI sport today and it actually felt noticeably slower than the 1.9TDI. The thing I wondered is, is the turbo on the 1.4 and 1.9 of a different size? Because the 1.4 sounds different to the 1.9. I mean the bigger engine has a 'proper' whistle. Are they different

Well found out a little more on a website, so I thought I'd post some info up in case any other TDI owners out there are interested.
In the newer PD TDI engines, a variable vane turbo is used.
Apparently it's just the size, boost pressure, and ECU mapping that pushes things up. They're supposed to be good for 80,000 miles + with no problems if not abused too much.
