seen the newspaper ad for the C1?

That new dinky citroen? (as if the c2 wasnt small enough - i guess its sharing the pug 1007 chassis but slightly more conventionally styled?)

If you look carefully, you'll see........ it's a 5 door. Don't worry if you don't spot it first time. It's a bit like a magic eye picture. The usual cues are all but completely missing. I didn't notice myself until I read the the usual small print along the lines of "model shown is 5 door 1.4 HDCi Fizz...."

How the hell did they do that?
The lower part of the door forms the rear wheel arch and directly leads into the bumper.
The upper part forms the C-pillar and runs straight into the tailgate.
These conventional parts appear to be otherwise missing, or at least the exterior panels for them do (i suspect the chassis is largely normal).
The only clue as to it's status, in a still photograph, is the colour coded door handle, and the merest of lines separating door from bumper - and even that could be taken as a regular bumper vs panelling gap, but for its unusual angle.

What an excellent idea - trust the french to do something like that (then let it down with shoddy engineering and head-slapping faults). Wonder how long it is in comparison to a Smart? Or indeed how it looks with all 4 doors and the boot open?

Plus the economy figures are startling - low 50s of mpg urban, mid 80s extra urban, for the 1.4 diesel... did i read that right?
Too bad it's a new car from a big name, and therefore, hellishly expensive.

And french :D

Looks like it's based on the new mini toyota that top gear were playing football with the other week? I think it's kinda funky.. but I can't imagine those rear doors would get much use, there must be half an inch legroom in there :? They have done a very nice job though.. if only they'd hidden that rear handle away alfa style then it really would look like a 2 door.

The new Citroen C1 is based on the exact same running gear and platform of the Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo (the footballer's choice). They all have a 998cc engine and 68bhp on tap (more than the Chevrolet Matiz I was driving some weeks back), and each one has a different front and rear design to distinguish them from each other.

So I guess it all depends on which badge you want really, as all three are virtually identical (cabin design is the same in all three). The Citroen actually isn't all that bad tbh, personally I reckon the 107 is the ugly duckling of the group, and the Aygo the best-looking... IMHO of course!

never said it was a good looking car :D just one with some cool ideas

they're all trying too much to look like the micra

however from the look of the bumpers/etc it's hard to imagine that they could make the bits of the car behind the rear seats or in front of the windscreen any smaller..... there's an engine in there?

(so does this mean pug have dropped the sliding doors idea?)

i'd drive it for that economy though, in the diesel, no matter what it looked like. hell give me one in pink, with a chav aerofoil on. truck it along a bit more carefully than the test would have simulated and you could be looking at the magic 3 litres per 100km thing that VW managed with that 1.0 SDi lupo prototype. Imagine that but in a hybrid form, the 1.4 dropped also to 998cc and electrically assisted.

hmm, 68hp from the 998cc petrol motor.... what's the torque like? :(
