EPC light ON

Post by poloboyben »

Today I was driving my car and the EPC light came ON, and the car doesnt seem to go above 3000 revs. When it does it simple bogs down and seems to stall, so i simply select a higher gear and its ok.

Almost impossible to drive, as i have to select about 3rd gear to pull away.

Any reasons or is it going to be a VW dealer job?

Its well random which is the weird thing.

Prob a dealer job, user manual says:

"Any faults in the engine management system which occur whilst driving will be indicated by a lit (petrol engine - EPC lights up) or flashing (diesel engine) warning lamp - the engine must be checked by a Volkswagen dealer as soon as possible"

Is it constantly on?

No it is on, when the car is hot. When i then leave it off for about 20 mins the car drives as normal and the EPC light remains off, until it gets hot when the light comes on and i cannot exceed 3000 revs (approx)

However i have been driving it this afternoon without reviing up much and the car has run fine for the hours travelling i did, which indicates that it only does it when i rev up, which ia just my style of driving.

It is also accompanied by the emmisions warning light if this helps.

prob a temp sensor somewhere that is faulty. you will have to take it to someone with VAG-COM to find out what, this is probably the only time you will be better of going to VW!
