refurbed wheels?

Post by tucker »

newbie here, just got my first polo gti in black and loving it. just need to ask a few questions. my wheels are in a pretty bad state around the rim, so i have just read "bastardchilds" diy guide on how to polish the rims up, which im near in the process of doing. the only thing i was wondering is that once the rims are taken back to there original even shine (after lots of sore fingers) do they need to be treated with anything? ie. laquered? or is that it? just left as bare metal. i have read through the guide twice now and could not see anything saying so.
secondly, while the wheels are off i was going to give the callipers a good clean. any sugestions? what cleaner? or even re-covering them with what ever that red stuff is haha...i guess its paint?
anyway any help would be great...many thanks lads

Hello mate, welcome to the forum, try Martyn at VAG Parts in the classifieds section for those bolt covers and the centre caps, I'm sure he does them.

Oh, and if your calipers have faded pink like most peoples do you can re-paint them with brake caliper paint, bought mine from Halfrauds, but still haven't got around to doing them!

HTH.

NO NO NO! thats why bstardchilds wheels don't go nasty! you don't laquer the wheels, just give them a rub over with autosol once a month!
