Porka.net - Actually a discussion about 16V MKIV v GTI MKV

Post by PhilGTi »

Why are people on porka.net obsessed with 1.4 16v MK4's? I dont see the attraction? They are just a poor mans GTi!

I asked, which do you recon i should get outta the Golf GTi (MK4) and the Polo GTi (MK5) and they are all like, get a MK4 16v... cant they understand? I want a newer car?? If i wanted a MK4 16v i could buy 2! Why do they constantly ramble on about 1.4 16vers :o

o right i see your point now...
i really like the shape of the mk4 golf, and theres so much (mods) to do :D .. bigger engines all round and more kit.

Polo mk5 gtis are less popular, and the xenons are supercool...

*cough* mk4 16v *cough* hehe - only joking

i dont think your right in saying a 16v is a poor mans gti.thats like saying a furio is a poor mans vts.or an xr3 is a poor mans rs turbo.a 1.8 16v a poor mans clio williams.106 quicksilver a poor mans gti.there simply older not as well eqipped models which your obviously gonna get in any manufacturer, model or year of vehicle.i have a 16v but if it was a poor mans gti that would mean i would ''love'' to have a gti...and i dont.maybe a polo gti is a poor mans golf r32.

well a certain 16v has beaten a certain gti down the strip once or twice. But I think that was mainly down to the driver. The 1.4 16V features reasonably heavily on porka mainly because the two main owners (robin and kam) both have them as well as a few of the moderators. Its like when this site began everyone had gti's.
