INLET SIZE VARIES

Post by ZOMBIE »

How come the ports on a 1litre inlet are bigger than the ports on a 1.3. Im in the process of boring out my coupe s inlet and am now reconsidering and just buying a 1 litre one and boring out the top face where it meets the carb.
More power bhp to be gained?? is my car restricted throught this??
HELP !!!!!! :? :)

the 1.0 one is what all mk3 ones look like. (well they both have the big single hole) I never checked the port sizes when i swapped carb for injector wish i had now. My derby has some sort of single butterfly pierburg on it that would suit that manifold perfectly, but im not selling it. 8)

so does that mean with some modification you can put the inlet off a 1L onto a 1.3L

:D

What ive learnt:-
Apparently the 1.3 inlet will develop more torque as it has 4 individual small bore runners but will feel strangled at top end>the reason why the 1l one has bigger bores is so that it has a decent top end speed.
In theory any way!??
However I think the best mod is to just get a 1.3 inlet and port match the beginning of the ports to the engine so you dont sacrifice torque but will have beter gas flow into the head making the engine more powerful!
Thats what im doing anyway! :D :)

specs for the 1.0 mk2 do suggest its a bit more peaky than the injection, which is a lot closer to the more grunt-focussed nature of both the carb and injection 1.3s.....

hmmm

you sir, have just blown my mind :D

I wish my one litre head, was 16v.
I would swap it over to the 1400 before fitting it.

Thats a great mod if it works.
