Hi there.
I've been thinking about a big disc conversion for my 6n 16v. Looking at a few Golf pages today I've noticed that upgrading a Mk2 GTi 16v to run 280mm front discs is basically a matter of fitting G60 caliper carriers.
Now, I think I'm right in thinking that the Polo 16v has the same pads and discs as a Mk2 Golf 16v so can the same thing be done on the Polo or is this wishful thinking?
If anyone's done this already I'd be interested to know of any problems/things to look out for etc (I think wheel clearance could be a problem as I'm only running 14s at the mo)
Any information would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks Tigz, very interesting...
Do you know if they'll still fit under 14s alright?
Also, I've just had a look for some G60 discs and they seem to be a bit thicker (22mm against 20mm). Do you know if the G60 pads are a bit thinner to compensate, or if the Polo pads would need machining down to fit?
Sorry for all the questions,

No they wont fit behind 14s mate.
They'll fit behind 15s no worries, but I can only just squeeze my 256mm discs behind my 14s.
Not sure about the size issue mate, Lupo discs are thicker than the G60 discs, so our lads have been useing VR6 pads to compensate.
Not sure about the other way around.
I wouldnt think you'd have any problems though, just use G60 pads?

You can fit the 16V/GTI 256mm Calippers with der G60 discs (280x22)
The callipper from 16V is ca 2mm thinner, and with the new brake pades, you can not fit it on the G60 disc! With NO other brake pads!!!
But, you take the brake pad, and take each pad 1mm trail away, now you can fit the 16V calipers with the Caliper holder from G40, over the G60 discs!
ive got the 280x22 on my 16v...
needed to get the slider pins machined down by 2mm each on a lathe at uni to get the calipers to fit over the new discs...other than that i only needed to get the carriers from a G60 and new discs and pads
minimum wheel size is deffo 15...im runnin 16s so no probs there
