Accelerator pedal bracket

mates just got in from work and his accelerator pedal had moved to almost touch the brake pedal..on closer inspection i noticed the U shaped bracket it fastens to had come away from the bodywork.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this happen and how they fixed it.

My idea was get someone to weld it back in place as it looks quite easy to get to.
