Fiat's new strategic partner is...

Post by dxg »

... Ford!

Having milked GM for the Punto / Corsa, Fiat are now moving to Ford for the Ka / 500

Should be interesting.

once again proving that there aren't really any unique manufacturers out there any more, they all have fingers in each others conglomerated pies.

wonder how GM will feel about having their corsa sold as the big brother to a deadly-rival ford product tho? :D
(not that they have any say in the matter any more)

will be finding out about fords current state of play in the months to come... a ladymate has taken delivery of a brandspankingnew fiesta (1.4 durazetecbobbins, ink blue, and various other girly details that seemed more important to her than the metal or the ludicrous monthly cost)... looks alright, yet to take a ride in it as it was already packed out with other pubgoers, but its still being run in anyhow. just hope she picked up on the line in the manual saying "no more than 2/3rds throttle", not just the "keep revs under half of full range"...

bet it'll be real slow with the hammer down, despite the protests garnered from her and chavscum cousin of hers (who works in a merc garage and bought an mg zr... argh) that it's "well torquey"... running in period is NOT the time to judge that, guys :D
the rest of the quality, who knows...

just hope it's better than the Ka, and that the Ka itself is brought up by bootstraps if its going to be the base for a new 500.

edit: so the trend is for merging models that are thought to be neccessary, but wouldn't have sold much individually? wonder if the spiralling cost of fuel is having a hush-hush effect on sales, mmm...? and this is a sign of it - cutting costs where possible whilst still keeping the companies as going concerns even with toppling turnovers.

oh, and
"The company used the Cinquecento name for several models in the mid-1990s that were different styles from the original. The last of those models was made in 1998, the company said."

Either Fiat is getting forgetful, or someone at the news agency is BSing without knowing their history too well. Used for one model in the mid 90s with all of two engines and not even any differing body styles.. :D
