I think the problem is the way the government have taxed the price of Fuel. 75-80% of what you pay is government Taxation.
Its absolutely discusting.
And to think of all the other things they tax you on aswell!
Like you have ur Vehicle Tax (Road Tax), Council Tax, Tax on ur wages/salary, NI - which is tax long and short of it, and now they're trying to charge Inheritance tAx. making a profit from your loss. Discusting.

Damned panic buying

When I filled up on... Friday IIRC... it was 100.9 for BP Ultimate. A full tank of fuel will provide me with two weeks of motoring as long as I don't have to go anywhere too far away (ie. Stafford or mid-Wales), by which time hopefully things will be a bit calmer!

106p in one place for optimax 99.9 in another. Although regular petrol is still around 90p in most places.

What does that stand for  Also, does everyone go with 98RON then (BP Ultimate) for example?

There is a list of forum acronyms somewhere on the forum, I'll search for it in a little while...

Using premium fuel is a personal decision that each of us is free to make. I chose to try out Shell Optimax on the way back from Leicester once (I filled at Cannock on the old A5) and it was great stuff, seemed to have an almost immediate effect on making things a bit smoother and quieter, dunno if it was just me or not though, knowing I'd just filled up with premium and then hearing/feeling things that aren't really there?

Anyway, got home and decided to try another tankful to see if it was a one off (plus heard that just one tank isn't effective because it's still mixing with regular fuel left over, so up to three/four tanks of premium fuel will see best effects) and found that there are no Shell garages for at least 12 miles in any direction!!

They're all in Telford!

So I've chosen to run with BP Ultimate (one garage in town with one Ultimate pump), although I understand that Optimax is the preferred choice with GTi owners?

So not everyone goes with 98RON fuel, it's down to you. Costs me about an extra £4 per tank of fuel (filling from when the petrol light comes on) at today's prices - last tank cost me a little over £37 @ 100.9p per litre...

HTH (erm, hope this helps I mean) :D

Mine took £38 from when the light came on (well about 10 minutes after) at Tesco?
