dash removal

Post by minis84 »

Hey

Sometime soon I'm going to fit a road angel hardwire kit to my Polo. I want to be as unobtrusive as possible.

How easy is it to remove the big parts of the dash on a Mk3?

I've removed the centre console and storage tray under the glovebox before, and also the heater controls etc, but nothing further than that.

I'd just like to have a bit easier access to the behind dash wiring really if possible.

Oh yeah, and does anyone know if there's a live which only becomes live with the ignition OFF? I have a flashing LED yoinked from a squareback in a scrappers, but it flashes all the time as I've temporarily wired it up to a permanent live feed.....any ideas?

Thanks!

you could try the ignition live on the wires for you stereo and cut into them, just put a voltmeter into each wire and find the earth and the 2 lives, one permanent and one ignition.
hope this helps.

I made a diagram of the stereo wiring so I know which is which (sad aren't I!?), but I'd rather find a 12V source that doesn't also feed the stereo, just to avoid overloading the wiring (mind you, the RA draws about 3A, so should be ok!).

Thanks!

Rest of the dash is one piece, not too bad to do once all the switches and controls are out, just screws and two nuts other side of the bulkhead.

For the flashing led connect the positive to a permanent live and the negative to a switched live. I think that works.
