can someone please tell me if the headlight switch should be permenantly illuminated?

I have converted mine to blue LED and cant remember when it is supposed to be illuminated

At the moment the light is off with ignition on, on with side lights and off with the dipped beam.

think its normally faintly on with ignition,on with sidelights and off with dipped beam.

mine:
switch off = always off
sidelights on = always on
headlights on = off with ignition on, on with ignition off

Ignition on: Bulb sign Illuminated
Sidelights on: Bulb sign Illuminated
Dipped beam on: Bulb Illuminated

Don't know if its right, but everthing seems to work OK so I'm not going to fuss around anymore!!

doesnt sound right mate... does the bit in the middle not come on at all?

Thats correct

Phew thank god thats right. The light in the centre only comes on with the side lights and goes off when dipped is on, but thats not a problem to me. Thanks to everyone for putting my mind at ease

same here, confused between bulb sign and green led

While on the subject of headlight switches and bulbs...

Anyone have any idea how to replace blown bulbs? The bulb symbol on my headlight switch has never lit up since I've got the car, and I would like to have it working again (call it podantic I know!).

hehe guess mine must have blown sometime in the 90s then, i never knew it was even supposed to be lit until now!

Hi mate you have 2 choices, either replace the entire switch assembly or arm yourself with a soldering gun, open the switch (four clips hold it together). There are 2 bulbs one higher than the other. The highest bulb is the one that has blown on yours. You then have two further options, replace the blown bulb with another known bulb from a doner switch (any of the dash switches will do), or replace it with an LED and resistor, There is a post on this forum on how to do this and when I find it again I will post the link on this thread.

Thanks for your help. Might look at a new switch, as mine has a rattling noise inside it when I've had to remove it to get to the clips for the clocks. That and it can be hard to get the headlights on sometimes, as it seems to jam on sidelights.

might actually possible to rejig it to activate the foglight switch circuit on the sidelights then?!

anything is possible, but why would you want to take the switch apart? Why not just link the fog light circuit to the side-light circuit??
