As far as i'm aware the regional country sections at the end of the number plate are legal..... Seem to remember a bit of hoo-haa about it a year or two ago and i'm sure the DVLA decided to allow the regional versions as well as the normal UK version. Try contacting your local DVLA office just to confirm.
It is really, mine is a good example the letter O in legal font looks more like the number 0? I think mine now is how it should be, much easier to read.

What i've done on Golf is have that one on the front and a legal one on the back- chances are they if they are going to pull me at all they'll be behind me so won't see it if it's on the front. Still get the look i'm after just a pain in the arse.
