not all the petrol stations have it! but alot do, just random i think?inder wrote:is this being run out across all tesco stations, or just a select few?
going to make much difference in a non-gti? mk5 16v
I just use their normal unleaded atm
if you open ur filler cap it says what grade of unleaded you need, the gti needs 98 ron, normal unleaded is about 95 i think so if gti drivers put normal unleaded in ther cars will be running lean.
basically its just better for the engine in the long run to use whatever is recommended!

tut tut! I hope you know that supermarkets buy from wherever it’s cheapest! In turn you get the dregs! Oil company fuel is different trust me! My dad was a manager at shell stanlow oil refinery for 26 years, he knows what gets put in (he will only put optimax in his golf, and he now works for BP now. is that telling you something?)Grum wrote: ps - optimax is total pish!
thats nice for him but optimax is still crap for my car, sainsbury all the way!dubpolo wrote:tut tut! I hope you know that supermarkets buy from wherever it’s cheapest! In turn you get the dregs! i have a difference of 10bhp after a month of usin sainsbury (i was on optimax before)! sainsbury fuel works great with my mods!
Optimax is the game, i've used it for nearly a year now in the Polo.
I used to use it in my vectra when i had that but when i bought the polo i didnt bother. i wasn't very happy with how well it pulled so i switched back to Optimax and don't use anything else.
I wouldn't touch Supermarket fuel. My folks used to use Tesco and their car ran like a burst couch for months. They ran a tank of BP ulitmate through it, then kept putting in BP unleaded it and it cleared up within a week.
My ex g/f worked for BP and she told me that supermarkets let their tanks run closer to empty than the likes of BP, Shell etc. It's to do with cost-cutting or sumfin.
There is no way you'd get 10bhp of a difference from using super-unleaded. Doesn't matter if it's from a supermarket or a big producer.

Errr maybe for a GTi thats true.......Del_GTi wrote:There is no way you'd get 10bhp of a difference from using super-unleaded. Doesn't matter if it's from a supermarket or a big producer.
My "other" car when run on the Dyno on normal unleaded makes 35 bhp less than when it's run on Shell Optimax or BP Ultimate.
35 bhp down from 377 is very very noticable
It pulls 6th from 60 mph when run on Optimax or Ultimate
It pulls 6th from 70 mph when run on super unleaded
It won't pull 6th till 85 mph when on normal 95 RON
It's all down to knock sensors and maps
Run lower RON and the knock sensors pick up knock so change the ignition setting - that loses power
Revert back to higher octane fuel and the knock sensors don't pick up knock so change teh ignition and that gains power
Optimax is very very good fuel but it goes off real quick
