I think the 6n2 GTI was £13500, but that was 6 years ago, so with inflation £15000 is probably about right.

Im with you on the price though aaron, I wouldnt consider buying one new.

I think i remember people saying they cost around £13,500 when brand new. Which is pretty damn expensive. With the new one costing £15,000 i doubt it will be a massive seller. Not when you could get a new Civic Type-R for £16,000 about 4 month ago.

Now if you look at the price of what they'll be in Australia..........consider the exchange rate........they work out to be around £12,000 I think! Just the expence of shipping and importing then!

Final thought though is = TOO EXPENSIVE

Autocar's road test from back in 2000 has the on-the-road price for the Polo GTi at £13,995 but their test car had side airbags and leather seats, which bumped the price to £15,975!! Back in the day the 106 GTi was around £12,500 so the Polo was a very expensive car. Solid though, and well put together for the most part with a high specification.

The new one is rumoured to be around £14,500 in base spec, but when you start adding stuff like xenons (not standard) and leather upholstery it's gonna rocket up to in the region of £17,000 :o

I'm going to give it six months and see what's available as nearly-new  I was looking at a Golf GTI today whilst booking the Polo in for some work to be done, and although far too expensive at the moment for my wallet, it had the xenons and uprated sound system for £18,995... not too bad for a £22k car IMO?
