How do I fit a mountney steering wheel boss?

Ive just bought a new steering wheel and boss, but I cant remove the metal bit on the spline

Ive got the old wheel off but just cant budge this metal piece.

Its like a metal cylinder with a spring at the bottom.

Any help is much appreciated as Im going to end up breaking my steering collum

duno if it helps but wen i took mnine of on my fiesta it wouldnt budge either so i got a hammer and a can of wd40 soaked the spline with wd40 tapped it with a hammer then prized it off gently with a screwdriver lol a bit of a rough way but hey it worked
