Two questions

Post by AKs_SlickPolo »

Just thought id combine my two questions to you guys so i dont make loads of posts

Flip Key 8)

I got one 3 button flipkey and one standard key when i bought my 9N. But the casing of the flip key is completely worn out since i bought the car, as i keep on droping it, and its actually started to break (the plastic that is). The key operates fine, but i wanted to buy a similar key off ebay or something and replace the casing. I modded my old MK4s key and alarm remote and transponder chip to fit into this so im quite familiar with opening it and stuff but never found a transponder chip in this  . Now i know how to change the internal remote curcuit board and key bit held by the roll pin. But my question is where is the transponder chip???? :? is it inside the metal bit of the key, or in the other glued together part of the key??? can any1 shed any light to this?

Second question....

Removing door cards

Front one: ive found a post how to remove it, but i still dont get how to remove the grab handle ive got electric windows, so have the flat handle with the window switches intregated into it. any1 help in this case? i want to upgrade my speakers to components, so i need to remove the door cards i beleive?

Rear ones, i have no clue either? i need to remove the drivers side one to tighten a suspected loose pretentioner  . Any ideas?

Cheers any help appreciated? 8)

Only going to be able to help with rear door card if it's a 3 dr. If it's a 5dr there is a DIY guide for it.

3dr - (going on vague memory as it's been a year since i've done this and i no longer have a 3dr). Under the rear seat you will find a plastic pin. Lever that out with a flat head. Other than that i believe it's only held on by clips. Believe you'll have to remove the plastic strip along the sill before removing the rear card if that makes sense :? .

My apologies if you go out to your car and that doesn't make sense what so ever.... as i said vague memory

I bought a 3 button key from Ebay, as the one I was given looked like it had been ran over. I switched all the bits over on the key, and it worked fine for about two days, then it wouldn’t deactivate the engine immobiliser. I took it to VW, giving them some BS story, and they ordered a new button section and reprogrammed the pair.

So my advice is do the switch over, and then plead ignorance!!

Aaron I think if you go to the Haynes website it has a list of manuels coming out.

Yeah I just switched the key blade and the circuitboard.

You have only just bought the car so you could complain, i guess!?
