Anyone got leather in their Polo?

Post by Nelson_Wilbury »

Just wondering whether it is worth such a high premium? Though I think many people on here have more sense than money
Did a bit of adding up today, it'd cost me just over £700 to buy a original leather interior for a Polo, then £50 to a friend to fit it for me, shame I've only got an S (and a 55bhp one at that) you also need to have to have heated front Sports seats

Neil

Also, has anyone thought putting the blue/red Colour Concept gear lever gaiter on a Sport with the Anthracite blue/red interior? Just thought that'd be quite a nice mod. :P

Don't understand why you "need" to have had heated seats installed. The leather seats come with the heated option anyways, and the wiring should already be in place, just a case of fitting the control switch/module unit into the space in the dash...

Or you could just not wire them up.

Do you have a/c? if you do go for the leather.

Beware, I had leather in my Golf but was forever slidding around on corners, the girlfriend hated it. The real bonus is the smell of the leather, they are easy to clean and the fact that they are heated is an extra bonus. Great in the cold weather.

If you do go for it make sure you treat the leather reguarly.

Good point, I suppose you could do it without the wiring. But I still need the sports seats :-(

When you specify leather interior you also get Sports seats, I only have an 'S' model so the leather covers wouldn't fit.

What Leather Covers ??

First, you can get the leater seats on SE trim and above. SE trim don't come with sports seats, regardless of wether you choose them in cloth or leather.

Second, leather Seats are LEATHER SEATS. I.E. THE FULL SEAT, INCLUDING THE LEATHER OUTER COVERING

If you only wanted your seats re-trimming then why didn't you say so in your original post? I'm sure someone on here would be able to point you in the right direction....

Erm, as far as I know when you specify leather upholstery (inc. Colour concept pack) you get HEATED front sports seats. Look in the 2003 brochure, 1.4 75bhp Auto with leather front sports seats. Also, ETKA (VW/Audi parts catalogue) only list leather seat covers for Sports seats...

Finally, check the 2003 brochure Colour combinations, it CLEARLY lists 'SE, SPORT - Leather Sports Seats'.

I don't quite understand what you mean by they are LEATHER seats, the only part that is actually leather is the trim itself, (e.g. £150+VAT for a leather seat base cover, £50 for a headrest etc etc).
You can't even buy 'seats', ALL VW/Audi seats have to be bought in about 20 parts and assembled at the dealerships. Probably at a cost of £300+, I know of many 90's Audi Coupes that have just been written off because someone has half-inched the front leather seats.

I kinda did point out in my original post that I was tinkering with the idea of leather seats, I would have thought the prices gave it away, also the line "it'd cost me just over £700 to buy a original leather interior for a Polo". But oh well

Try looking in the 2003 price list, Issue 6, instead of the pretty pictures in the brochure. See below.

Sport's seats are for Sport version. Funnily enough.

Now, lets have a look at the available options for the SE shall we?

look. Leather seats. Not Sport's leather Seats, just plain leather ones.

So i was correct. You cannot get Sports leather seats in the SE Trim.

You can get the Colour Concept Pack. That comes with Sports leather seats, but as it costs £2095.00 for just the 3 door version, i would expect Sports seats if i was stupid enough to pay that price for what amounts to some fancy colour inserts.

I don't quite understand what you mean by they are LEATHER seats, the only part that is actually leather is the trim itself, (e.g. £150+VAT for a leather seat base cover, £50 for a headrest etc etc).
So your telling me that if i went into VW and ordered a Leather headrest, all i would get is the leather & not the headrest??? Don't be so stupid. Maybe your getting confused with the kind of seat covers that you can get from Halfords? With the elasticated back?

To get the Leather seats Factory fitted is £1255.00. That most likely includes the cost of the time taken to build & install them.

Buying the parts for £700 (which i assume includes your discount for working with the VAG) seems very reasonable to me as you are not paying VW to fit them. But if you are correct, and that £700 only buys you the hide, and not the actual seats, i would say you would be an idiot to buy it.

Hey, guys... Lets play nicely... Please!

Spark, please don't call people stupid... We've all been there before.

However...

I was under the impression that if for example, you had ripped the fabric on a cloth seat, you could get a new "seat cover" from VW, ie get new upholstry to replace the ripped fabric.

You can remove the fabric from the seats without too much bother... When I had my passenger seat base replaced under warranty, they still used the existing fabric to cover the new base.

IMHO you should be able to buy the leather upholstry (which will be ready to fit) from the dealers and get it fitted in leu of the fabric. Ie take the fabric off the seats and replace with the leather.

That's what places that "do" leather interiors do. They still use your seats, but reupholster in leather.

Just my 2p.

Nelson, please confirm that this is what you meant.

Ok, i will agree to disagree on this one, and ask the dealer if it's possible to get both the leather covers and the complete part.

Btw, i was playing nicely

Sparkstack, I'm beginning to think you're taking our discussion personally and that was never the intention.

This is very interesting Sparkstack, you're beginning to make my point for me.
Firstly, thats NOT the options list, that is the STANDARD equipment list, if you have tunnel vision look to your left, you'll see a whole new page...

You're not very slick. But I am in no doubt that you believe in what you say. PERHAPS, just perhaps, it doesn't list Sports seats because Leather isn't standard in an SE AND only availiable when you actually specify leather.
I have yet to see an SE without leather Sports seats and I think the brochure, the listing on ETKA (if it had standard leather seats they WOULD be there!!) backs this up enough.
Did you look at the 2003 brochure? Forgot to add, look at the page 'A CHOICE OF UPHOLSTERY'. Again, 'SE, Sport: Leather Sports seats.'
I would have thought common sense ruled out leather in standard seats, there’s barely enough support WITHOUT leather let alone WITH.
I don't quite understand what you mean by they are LEATHER seats, the only part that is actually leather is the trim itself, (e.g. £150+VAT for a leather seat base cover, £50 for a headrest etc etc).

They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, and I your post is a pretty cheap shot. Something for nothing? Yes please! However, a sharp tongue does not mean you have a keen mind.
But My God people, I think he’s starting to get this! The only complete part that comes trimmed in leather is the headrest, which is why it costs £50, probably because the thought of knitting doesn't appeal to some people
Call me stupid if you want, obviously I only work for VW/Audi, a person whos only reference is a price list and wives tales is obviously going to know more about they are ordered, let alone how they come standard  Just think about it before you try to shoot me down again.

No, it includes the cost of the leather, there is extra time required in putting the seats together, only the processes used to prepare the leather is actually expensive.

I know I am not going to change your view. I don’t want to, nor would I try to. I have merely been stating my own. You are not going to change mine either. Take it or leave it, I am unable to care either way. But not everyone feels that they need to insult people on these boards, just because they feel big and clever and nobody knows who they are.

Also, can I ask how old you are? Because your acting like a ignorant 6 year old who’s just been told Santa doesn't exist. For gods sake grow up!! If you don't like, or agree with whats being said here, bad luck, that's ten minutes of your time down the drain. Try another thread next time and if you can't find one to your taste, why not start your own :?:

However, if you still don’t believe me, do check with VW. Freephone 0800 333 666, but they'll only tell you what I already knew...
