what makes a G40?

Post by minis84 »

Hey,

On my GT, so far, I've got the interior and the brakes from a G40.

Apart from the 13" BBS wheels, what else makes a G40?

Obviously the 1272cc low compression engine, G-Lader supercharger, what else?

Do they have an anti-roll bar? I've had a look under the rear of the GT and can't see one, unless its just a stronger torsion bar?

What about the ECU, injectors, fuel tank/returns pipe? Wiring loom?

I'm trying to think what else I could need to do the conversion.

Thanks!

Tom :D

G40 has

Supercharger
Intercooler
Multipoint Injection
Close-ish Ratio Box
Vented Brakes
Rear arb
Different Track control arms
Arch/Sill Extensions
Black badges
Red Striped Bumpers
Spoiler On Drivers Wiper
Sports Interior
Beesting Aerial
Rev Counter In Clocks
3 Spoke Steering Wheel
25mm Lower than Other Mk3's
Thicker carpets including boot to compensate wider spare wheel

all i can think of at the moment, oh, and bucketfulls of G-Smiles (when they work) 8)

Okey cokey, so the things I need that I don't already have on the GT are above (not counting the aerial, thicker carpets, drop)

Shouldn't be too hard to get hold of things, and I think I'm going to speak to PSD and go Eaton M45 anyway :D

That means I'll have an Eaton M45 in both the Mini and the Polo!

Speaking of the track control arms, what's different about them, are they thicker/longer/lighter/something else?

Thanks for the quick replies!

The Track control arms are metal rose joineted on the inner bush, and stronger rubber outer bush. The rear axle is the same as the GT one, they have an arb through the middle.

The fuel delivery is the same, but you would need a G40 fuel rail and injectors along with the ancills such as wiring loom.

I think it would be a shame to change your GT as it's low mileage and in very good condition. It's not often you get them like this.

Why is it you wan't an eaton ? I don't see why so many are quick to ditch the G-lader, which is a very good charger.

thanks for the complement Hardhitter, I'm thinking long term if I'm honest, probably not at least for another year or more - if there's any G40 engines/equipment left then!

The GT has a gearbox problem, an annoying whine in 4th and 5th at low revs, which I believe is the diff, or possibly layshaft, i'm not sure. Its not hugely loud but I know its not right.

But apart from that it is in pretty good nick I agree, and its got central locking again now :D

As for the Eaton, I think the longevity of it might be a thing for me. Although I don't mind the mechanical aspect of taking it off etc, the time it takes to have a charger rebuilt could be problem. How long roughly should a charger go between rebuilds?

I'm not thinking of going for huge mods to the charger either, I'm aiming for stock/a bit more power to start with, nothing huge straight away.

Thanks!

doesn't mean it's not close ratio

the internal ratios are the same as the GT, so moderate to close, but the final drive is a lot higher, more like a diesel's - so overall the gears are high, but with smaller gaps between them than an 8P

(looks like i got back just in time....)
