rear lights not working

hi all, i bought a black 3 door gti a couple of weeks ago and i'm loving it. it really is a great car with a revvy engine and drives really similarly to my mk1 gti.

anywho, i have a small problem. when i switch my lights on the rear lamps do not come on. the brake lights work fine regardless.

i have checked the fuses and they seem fine, so before i book it in to vw does anyone else know what i should be checking? i am assuming that both the bulbs won't be dead at once?

They might be, check and replace them first before you go to VW mate

I had my left and right rear brake light bulbs fail within about 2 weeks of each other, l'il ba****ds so it could well be as simple as that.
