Surely this can't be the GT(i)? Fair enough it's got the engine, but *nothing* else to distingish it?
If this really is all VW have to offer, I won't be buying one.
I'm sure it aint the GTi. Got a feeling in's a concept model to rival Skoda's Fabia vRS or something like that. Hopefully VW's holding back so they can put one of their shiny new Turbo FSI unit's planned for the next Golf into it
Still, this is the company that put out a Golf with a 2.0L 115bhp (0-60 in 11 secs!) engine, standard suspension and put a GTI badge on it
The new sporty top model in the Polo range is being launched next year in the form of the 130 HP Polo GT.
The 1,9-Litre-TDI with pump duse injection - taken from Bora, Touran and Sharan - provides for more than sufficient road performance. From the Polo this engine makes a small GT sports car owing to its maximum torque of 310 Newtonmeters, which is available with 1.900 U/min.
0-100km/h arrives in 9.3 seconds, equipped with a six-gearbox, its maximum speed arrives at 206 km/h.
The TDI consumes the least fuel in the sportiest Polo despite the possible high road performance.
From the outside the Polo GT makes itself unknown. Only darkened tail lamps and side turn signals as well as elegant details at front and rear point to the performance under the bonnet.
The sport chassis with 16 inch alloy wheels and broad tyres provide for good road-hugging ability. In the interior sport seats with special trim, leather steering wheel as well as further details give a sporting ambience. Starting from beginning of 2004 the Polo GT is also available with three 1.4-Litre - 75 HP, FSI 86 HP and 100 HP petrol engines - as well as two further TDI engines with 75 HP and 100 HP.
Does anyone have any more pics of it? I'd like to see what the rear lenses are like, at least.
But personally - I'm disappointed. I had hoped for something similiar to the Lupo GTI - different enough for people to realise what you had, if they knew what to look for.
If there's going to be a "GT" version of pretty much engine type then there seems little point to owning one as no one would know exactly what you had. Same principle as debadging, really. Debadging is fine if you have something further down the model range (or if you're going for a the smooth look), but surely you'd want the kudos of the GTI badge if you'd saved up for a good one - giving everyone else access to that badge defeats the purpose.
It seems like VW learnt nothing from their bagding mistakes with the MK4 Golf GTI.
Perhaps they are saving the GTi badge for a 1.9 TDi 150 engine? Perhaps (as the 1.8T is getting on) they wont even offer a petrol alternative, who knows?
