What IS the best way? Is it any different to petrol?
The engine is tight as anything and I guess it will open up with higher MPG?
Any thoughts diesel owners?

Do not take her past 3000rpm for the first 1000 miles. You'll also find there is no need to take her past 3500rpm once you're run in because the engine will have loosened up considerably.
3500RPM equates to quite a high speed on the motorway (I'm not putting it on here though) so this gives you an idea of the powerband.
I've found there is also about 50 miles more range using Shell Diesel against using BP Diesel.
