Does 16v Disc Brakes fit in 8V or are they different?

Post by BalinJu »

Hello all of you, I am new to this forum, i have a vw polo 6N, 97 version and my pads got me into trouble because they worn out when i was far away from home and they managed to get off half of the disc brake thickness!!

Now my question is this, since 16v disc brakes are ventilated, i would like to put my hand on those, but would they fit on an 8v version of they are different?

thanks for your help

Hi and welcome to the forum.

:( Sorry but the 16V discs will not fit your 8V brakes because they are 256mm compared to your 239mm.

You could however fit the whole 16V front brake system to your car. You would need the 256mm discss, calipers and caliper carriers and I think also the hubs.

What engine size do you have ?. Do you have solid discs then ?.

You can get drilled solid 239mm discs. Also ventilated 239mm discs should be fairly easy to swap on, the 1.6 cars have these.

Some clear indicator lenses and side repeaters would look good.
Also you could remove the black rubbing strips from the sides which cleans the looks up nicely and it's cost free :D .

You should be able to mailorder parts from most of the big VW companies here in the UK.
