Broken Timing Belt Tensioner

Post by Josh_PoloGTi »

Not happy.

Driving home this morning, I got onto a lovely stretch of road, so I switched off my stereo and wound my windows down to hear my engine...

Sounded lovely as I was apexing the road... Until I had to slow down.

Below 3000rpm there was a god aweful noise coming from my engine

If I kept the revs over 3k it was fine, sounded sweet, but anything from tickover to about 2750rpm there was a very metalic noise!

Not happy.

Anyway, took it down to JBS with the quickness and they diagnosed the problem as a collapsed/buggered cam belt tensioner.

So, I'm having 2 new cam belts (I have 2 you see!), 2 new tensioners, and anything else that might be buggered.

Think it's going to cost me about 200 quid... Better than 2000 quid if my cam belt would have slipped off (and it was THAT loose, it could have done  )

So, there you go. Lucky I suppose... But then again, I kinda wish I'd have bought the extended warranty now (it was 365 quid for a year).

Arse.

All sorted... Picked my car up this evening.

£187 quid inc vat.

They replaced both Timing Belts and 2 Tensioners.

1 tensioner had fallen to bits (the plastic outer had been ripped to shreads  )

Anyway, all done now and not too much of a bill either. (I think the stealer repair price would have been more like 400 quid

Yeah I was just going to say you've gotten a good price there!

I have one belt, the dealer charges about €400, or 275-ish Pounds...
