What Wheels?
What Wheels?
I have a Mk1 Polo GLS. I is real cool. I need to get some new wheels for it because I only have the Factory Steels on it. I havent driven it yet because i have only just gone 18 and my insurance wouldnt let me pay monthly until I was 18 so.....
Please help me find some cool wheels. I want to Super Retro and Orginal.
A nice Picture of the wheels and a rough price would be great....
Cheers x

Its all about the oldskool, but shopping for rims can be hard, especially if you specify Original...
Rims that suit a mk1 have lots of dish, such as these Tramonts:
Price: Lots £££
Size is important, but offset is even more imporant
Wide + low offset = plenty of dish, as demonstrated by mine on 13x8 ET0 Minilites.
Price: Average, but proper 4x100 rims are hard to come by
Doesnt come more original than Maseratti Biturbo rims, these were spotted on a mk2 polo (might have been a mk3 actually).
Price: Dunno, ebay is your friend though
Starmags...
Price: You gotta find them first!
Theres always good old ATS Classics to fall back on, they have the uncanny ability to make any mk1 look s**t hot.
Price: Yawn... too common
Barginous original good honest retro rims are hard to come by, but can be done - i got these Alleycat Cheetahs for 60 quid off fleabay
MSW Kings from Ebay.de for about 75 quid
Bit of a half-arsed guide, probably not much use, but I hope I showed you that there is a choice out there. Beware though, you will end up spending massive amounts of time browsing Ebay.de, .be and .nl for the rarest of goodies, its addictive!

cheers man, it was a big help. I have been thinking about ATS Classics for a while, but, are they too common?
There is a reason why they are so common though. Its there ability to look wicked on any MK1.
I have found some Starmags, but I hadn't seen them on a mk1 until that picture and they look mint. cheers x

More ATS Classics, these 7s and 8s - are the best combination
More Minilites, think these are 6s and 7s - love the contrast of bright rims against the moody green here
Think these are Lotus rims of some description, not massively wide but the offset makes them fill the arches nicely
Some modern Schmidts, im not a massive fan

Damn! 80mm is low! You may have problems with the exhaust hitting any form of ridge in the road with that... will look cool as though.
Venom Motorsport do a -70mm kit (springs and dampers) for £170, appart from that, i dont think you'll get -80 without using coilovers or a lowering kit and spring caps...

OK, i finally have put my wheels on....! Now it just needs lowering, as you can see from the Picture! I would have put more pictures on, but I ran out of space on my camera.
I have got my lowering kit, and I am lowering it later this week (hopefully). It needs to be on the road pretty soon though, ready for E38 BABY!
I'll put the pictures of it lowered on, when it happens...
(check the cleaness under my arches!)
cheers x
