I've never had that problem before Alun, don't know why it's doing that to you.

Have you only got 1 key?

If you're going to get a new one, go for a flip key if they can program it to work.

I bought a GTi in December from a VW garage. Drove it away and went to the petrol station and couldn't lock it with the fob. Took it back and the key just needed re-programing. The after sales bloke did re-program it in front of me but can't quite remember what he did. Think he just put it in the door lock and held it down and the romote locking started working again.

all you gotta do is stand right next to the car with it locked and push down the two buttons until it stops flashing.. it reprogrammes itself once it stops flashing then it should work fine

Prob not much help but I'm pretty sure he put the key in the door lock, turned it and held it and it magically started working again. He might have pressed the button while the key was in the door. This was about 8 months ago and I had a list of problems so can't quite remember what he did but I pretty much doubt your battery has died already and the key just needs programming again!

Its all a bit mad really. Both of my keys work perfectly, changed the batteries in both about a month ago and they have continued to work as expected.

When I bought my car back in 2003, I got home and had a good look around the interior, and found a third key in the coin tray, with a load of brown tape wrapped around it! It fits the barrels and opens the car manually, but the electronic bits are fried as it doesn't flash. Still don't know the full story behind it to this day!
