GT Dizzy

Post by edryn80 »

Hello All,
I am new to this forum as I have just bought a nice little GT, its actually fairly beat up and broken but we shall rat it and all will be well.

Its not running, AA claim a dizzy fault, i assume its the hall sender. Does anyone have one for the multi point GT or know of any other cars that run the same so I can get one from a scrappies. (No GT's about...)

So please help if you can, pint at next years shows for giving me a hand.

Can you get the number that's stamped on the body of the distrubutor and post it up here? Can determine if you have the right dizzy to start

GT/G40 specific dizzies end in part numbers "T" or "P" I think

Hall senders are also the same throughout the range - SPI and MPI engines. You can also apparently buy a replacement hall sender kit from VAG.

Other usable distributors include; Skoda 1.6 and Mk4 Polo both ending in part number 'AB' (which are both good alternatives if you are looking for just a suitable replacement)

Hope this helps

Replace the hall sender to start

As I previously said, these are the same throughout the range

See if that cures your problem

the actual sender is the same and you can rebuilt the gt dizzy using parts from an spi dizzy, personally i find it easier to find an mpi mk4 polo ibiza or skoda with the ab dizzy which is less suseptable to hall sender failure anyway. have them on both my g40 and gt and they run fine

Had one fitted by a stealer on a 1.3 single point, the dizzy was £90 about 4 years ago, ok I know it was a few years ago but I was surprised at the price then. It was an intermittant fault, but it had a knack of failing miles from home.
