Done a nice (and cheap!) mod to the 9n today...

Today I fitted 'blue tint' sidelight bulbs from VAG, which cost me Â£2.21 but retail would cost about Â£5 max.

Basically, mole found out about these a couple of days ago (before I start taking credit

) and we were unsure what benefits they would have if we ordered them. Anyway, I was bored at work so I thought i'd order them for a laugh! I also ordered blue tint indicators but only one turned up today so I'll be leaving those until tomorrow.
Anyway, took about 20 minutes to fit. Three minutes for the near side and seventeen for the off side because the battery was in the way!

Result: I stopped half way through doing them to compare each bulb and the difference is pretty amazing. Whereas the standard sidelight bulb shines a rather yellowish haze the blue bulbs are almost totally clear and there is no haze whatsoever, they also show the inside detail of the headlight much better

For a fiver this is a good mod and these would easily cure Scorpio1's sidelight problems (yellow haze on sidelights, blingin' Xenons on headlights!

)

I'll get some pictures tomorrow though to be honest I think it'll be hard to tell the difference with a photo image, perhaps if mole does decide to do his car he'll do a comparison with his own car (*hint hint*)

I'll be sure to write a 'how to' as well when I get some free time in daylight (!)

Anyway, just thought I'd pop in because I haven't posted anything on here in a while!

Excellent, glad they made a difference in the end. I'll probably order some as well as the indicator bulbs if you think they're any good.

I might just add:

I'm not claiming these improve lighting performance (and as if it'd make a difference on sidelights!) but its just a nice cheap mod and looks allot nicer than yellow haze lights

How do you get the side indicator lenses off a 9n? Is it a "lever carefully off while trying not to break the plastic legs", or a "take the wheel arch liner out" job?

Also, do you have to disconnect the battery, or is there enough slack in the cables just to move it out the way??

Think I have created some confusion here... (!)

Basically, the indicators which are offered as blue blubs are the FRONT headlamp indicators. Here are some pics with the bulbs as promised, I haven't attempted to show the sidelight bulbs because you'd barely see them anyway

The flash on the camera is showing the blue tint a bit more than it should but otherwise they are basically clear, omitting the 'Fried Egg' look that you get with standard bulbs

You'd be suprised how different it makes the fron't end look

Yep, they flash totally orange.

If I was to decribe them correctly, they aren't actually blue. They appear to be a mirror (but see through) finish. You know when you see spilt petrol on the forecourt floor? Well, sorta like that!

the way you describe the indicator bulbs, makes em sound like th ones in my in pro rear lights on the rado. and i dont think they do that great a job.

The best ones IMO that i have tried are silvatec ones. completely chrome to look at, but light completly orange. Brilliant things.

Yeah, don't really think the indicator bulbs are anything special (an indicator bulbs an indicator bulb to me!

) However, I think they do look slightly better than standard which is good enough for me. It was nice to find out what the VAG 'blue bulbs' were like anyway

I too have heard allot of good thinks about the silvatec bulbs, might buy a set next time i'm at a show.

For anyone reading and considering this mod, I'd definately recommened the sidelight bulbs just for the price and slightly clearer light you get (even though you don;t benefit from it!

) but for the Â£25 it costs for the indicator bulbs I would suggest staying standard or Silvatecs.

Im definalty considering the side light bulbs. i hate the yellowish tint the normal ones give

I've got Silvertec side repeater bulbs and DAMN they are silver!!!

I've also got Philips Silver Vision front indicator bulbs and although they are better (much better) than standard, you can still see some orange if the sun hits them.

Yeah thats the problem with mine. the in pros are Crystal and thebulbs spoile em cause it really reflects and looks a bit dark. Siva tec bulbs will be going in, when i get round to it (read: when i can be bothered

)

Have them in me side repeaters (crystal too) and on her polo. excellent things.

another note. the siva tecs glow orange, my philips seems to be yellow

yeah, rear bulbs are the sam as front bulbs..

Cant remember the price, but worth it in my opinion. wish my mate would fit em to his
