Newbie - First car with fuel pump problem

Firstly hiya
Bought my Vw 3 months ago was my first car and love it dearly

Until yesterday,
car wouldnt start, called out green flag and they said it was the fuel pump

now ive a little mechanical experience so i checked the pump and it seemed to be priming but still nothing.

i located a replacement from a local breakers for Â£15 problem is i cant get the thing out of the car

Haynes is very vague

Has anyone had experience swapping these?

not sure - ive disconnected the two pipes, unscrewd the black plastic retainer you then lifted the top segment off the top the tank.

Two pipes run off this into another unit that sits in the fuel, its this peice i cant release.
