Thinking of fitting a pioneer navigation system. Anybody got experience with these things?

this is the setup I'm thinking about. It's got a screen you can fit anywhere you like. Plus I can remove it when I park the car.. Without the DVD video option(costs 300euros more:? )

No need to take anything with you when parking, and I think it's kinda, well, sexy.

I was thinking of fitting an oem GPS system. But it'd be Â£400 MINIUM.

Does look very sweet though

who knows, maybe it did help. Just found out I could get this system for 550euros instead of the normal 2300euros(don't have any idea how much that is in pounds)
But then I loose my mp3 radio and it probably doesn't have a sub exit, so i'd have to change my new ice-install...

I'll try to find some more info on this baby..

The VW satnav is based on old CD-Rom technology, ie you need a disc for the Uk, a disc for europe, a disc for northern europe get the idea.

The Pioneer is based on DVD technology, 1 disc for everything.

I know. Think I'm going for the pioneer.. next year(when I get the funds together)
I already have a pioneer headunit with mp3 function, which I'd hate to sell. Linked to the HU the navigation unit would fit nicely I think..

Good point [again] Bart. You'd also need a VW-changer to play cd's. OTOH, it does have a big 5 inch screen that can be used to play dvd's or watch TV.

I was under the impression that it did in fact have a pre-out, but a dedicated sub-out it won't have

If you can remove the Kenwood screen that's really great!

which is the same as the Sony, etc. SatNavs without screen (they all use Becker and just "wrap" it in their one case...
The good thing with the Becker version is that you can order it in blue/red (blue display, red buttons)!

I thought about buying the MFD instead, but I already got my old Snoy stereo stolen, and with the MFD you can't remove anything like e.g. a frontplate, so there's not much you can do to make the MFD uninteresting for thieves... I know that one guy in Germany from polo9n.com got his stolen the same week he bought it....

You can always connect a mp3 player to the AUX-IN and although according to VW you can not fit the additional TV-Tuner into a Polo it's working in reality... You can also get an extra box to get TMC (traffic jam announcements included in your route calculations) but the only radio station here to send the TMC signal is Classic FM and the coverage for the UK is not as good as TMC in other countries.... (I wish Radio1 would send TMC signals)
