Electric Fuel Flap Release

Nelson's quest for OEM mods on his car has set me thinking.

On my V5 Golf I had a button next to my handbrake that opened my fuel flap for me. I'm not to keen on the push/click and open approach that VW are using for the 9n Polo, So it'd be ideal to add a solenoid to the fuel flap catch with the Golf release switch integrated into the interior somewhere. This switch also illuminates red inline with the rest of the dashboard.

Thoughts anyone?

I spent ages comparing the fuel flap locking on the Polo with a Passat (same system as a Golf). I came to the conclusion that they are very different. The Polo central locking sends a 'spike' into a hole in the flap whereas the Passat uses a straightforward solenoid catch. I agree that the Polo is a very poor design. If you push the flap accidentally when the car is locked the flap will open as soon as the car is unlocked - quite often you don't notice this. I've seen several new Polos driving around with the fuel flap open.
It would be brilliant if someone could come up with a modification.

I have one of those buttons from a Golf, but I'm using mine with the audi TT fuel cap that has the fuel cap spring loaded, not sure how you would make the polo cap spring loaded, could be done with a bit of effort I'm sure!!
