To Declare or Not to Declare
Hey guys,
I've been talking to some people and it looks like i can get some eibach springs for £50, which will lower my car 30mm.
and i can get it fitted for £50, seems like a cheap deal to me, so im happy to do it.
however, im wondering what i should declare to my insurance.
as it stands, i have my rear lights, K&N induction kit, my head-unit, my sub/amp/wiring, and hopefully, soon some lowering springs.
i pressume, out of all of this, i only really need to declare the K&N and the springs? i understand that this is all at my own discretion, and it would be stupid not to declare these things, but what have you guys done? and would you recommend declaring anything else ive done, other than lowering and induction.
the K&N isnt declared yet, but bare in mind, im on my dads insurance, and he has unlimited no claims, so, essentially, it looks like he's doing the mods, will this mean that the premium wont go up as much as it would if it were MY policy?
sorry bout the length,
thanks in advance

not true, if your under 24 or somethin like that, they will not allow you to have mods, it really depends on your insurance, im with CIS, and i wanted to upgrade my alloys to 16inch, and they said they would not cover my policy..as it is a mod, daft i know, but yeh, essentially ur a young driver on policy so they will not insure you...

haha nahh i hear what your saying mate!
that is probably fair to say, i imagine its hard to say wether my premium would go up much isnt it? i guess it depends on the company?
i take it, having that £2k crash wont have helped me AT ALL, becuase im a named driver, does it mean that it goes down as MY crash? or my parents?

You could say, IF I did this mod would it put it up/would you cover me then remove it if it's too much.
Although as Dino says, if you didn't remove it or didn't tell them, your insurance is pretty much non existant. That is why I declare everything, I'd rather pay more and be insured than not and be shafted if I crash

you'd be a fool not to declare anything. you might aswell just send me a cheque with your insurance payment each month, thats all it's worth as the insurance wouldnt pay out for an accident if they inspect the car and its not 100% standard
always declare eveything. call up and check costings before mods.
as for CIS, i used them a few years ago and they didnt knock the premium up when i modded my car. i was 18 with 0 ncb aswel

Declare Everything mate...
I work in insurance...(not gonna mention who) but we basically get trained up to decline anything if not mentioned...
Headunit/ICE - "Up to the Value of £1000" policies... best to call and just mention that you have a headunit, speakers, amp and sub, and make a note of the time and date - all calls are recorded by law now and you will have something to fall back on if worse comes to worse!
In regards to the important ones...
Engine - ANYTHING - even a performance panel filter - declare it!
Wheels - anthing other than standard - even alloys from the same make, if its not the same as the ones that came on the car they are not gonna pay out.
Suspension & Brakes - alarms will ring - this basically says "You are going to stuff it on some country road because you will think you are invincible - hard cornering and late braking = accident = pay out - company loses money
Hope this helps...
I have declared everything that i have done to mine, HIDs, tints, ICE etc.. better safe than sorry!

this is all sound advice, many thanks,
i need to get on the phone to my insurance company (Liverpool Victoria) if that means anything to anyone, and ask how much new springs and an induction kit would affect me. They seem to be the only things worth declaring, becuase if i crashed i wouldnt claim for the ICE.
is it the case that, if you crash, and have undeclared alloys, they'll simply not pay to replace the alloys, or they wont pay for anything? (sorry about my ignorance
)
is there no way that the insurance company might think that it was my Dad who was modding the car? and not me, seeing as its his policy?
