lowering tips - everyone with a gti please give some advice

Hi guys, I was just wondering what everyone has their gti lowered to and with?

Ideally I don't want to faff about with coilovers, to me its not worth the extra cash to be able to adjust the height. Has anyone got photos of cars on springs? i was looking to lower around 60mm i think..baring in mind i will be running 16's hopefully on 195/40/16's

I was lowered 60 front, 40 back on the 16" RXII's last year and it looked spot-on, and there was a bit of arch-gap left over.

Here's a pic from Santa Pod last year

Theoretically, you could go lower than 60mm with the wheels on, as they're only 6.5J wide and sit rather well inside the arch.

There was no rubbing at all, only when I put spacers into the equation, things started to get a bit dodgy.

cool how much did your kit cost? I assume there will be no difference between yours and mine & i could get the same kit?

I assume I couldnt go lower without getting coilovers?

It cost Â£140 from Mr. Jackson (PhilJ) on CP.

You can go lower than 60mm on springs and shocks, there's both a 75mm and 80mm kit available on CP.

I'm not sure about whether they will look the same, the GTI is already lowered 10mm as standard, but I'm not sure whether that is in regard to the standard springs/dampers or the whole suspension setup.

Cyhliu's car is on the Eibach Sportline springs, does look rather smart. Was the inspiration to do similar with mine essentially.

Eibach Sportlines are 50mm front and apparently 35mm rear.

In my opinion the Eibach Sportline springs give pretty much the perfect ride height for the 6n2.

If you want to go lower, the Phil Jackson or ebay kits are your only option bar coilovers.

60/40 kit looks good as they are 15's so mine should looks swwweeeet, thats if i'd get away with it???? that looks slightly lower than yours ollie??

Thanks for the nice comments Ollie, I've been very happy my Sportlines although the ride can be a littel harsh sometimes but I think thats because of the London roads more than anything else!

cheers for all the replies guys, think i'm gonna go for the 60/40 kit, any lower will prob cause problems, alot of lush looking polos, cyhliu yours is along the lines of what i want mine to look like, are those standard brake calipers?

I assume it will look better leaving the back on 40?? or would I go 60-60

here. The Eibach Sportline springs give lowering of 45-50 Front, 30-35 Rear NOT 60/40.
