After an 02 GTI
Hi guys I currently drive a corsa 1.2 but I am looking at maybe upgrading to a Polo GTI when I turn 19.
I got a decent quote from Bell, £1356 p/a full comp in my name which is quite good.
Thing is, looking around I can't seem to find any low mileage GTI's all seem to be at about 50k or more.
Also, after a 3 door and lots of 5 doors knocking about.
Are there any common problems with the GTI I should look out for? I'm aware of dodgy clutches and gearboxes, but being a VW surely rust should be very rare and general build quality should be pretty top notch.
How much would say a 2002 GTI with less than 45k on the clock be worth?
Whats the tunability of the these engines? I'm aware they are already pretty damn good for a 1.6 at 125bhp but would perhaps a full exhaust system including manifold, decent panel filter and remap see a few more squeezed out .
Cheers lads.
Oh and here's the corsa.

But I thought they were produced until 2002?
Is it worth me changing for an older and higher mileage car? Even if it is faster? Will it be more reliable than my corsa, which has been pretty good apart from a couple of CV boots and gear linkage? It's currently done 42k so don't really want to change for a car with more than 45k on the clock.

Do you think that insurance quote (1356 p/a)is quite good for a 19yo with 0ncb?
What faults should I look out for?
What would be "low milage" for a car of this age? less than 50k?

I've only ever seen 1 02 plate and that was posted up the other week, the latest you'd get really is a 51 plate but as said age isn't really an issue.
Just go for one that looks as though it's been treated nice and make sure it's mechanically sound. Oh and lastly make sure it's had the pedal box recall carried out, there'll be a stamp in the service book as well as it being on the sticker under the carpet in the boot (left hand side)

Thats quite a good quote, im also with admiral, 19, 1ncb, 1 crash(right off) and mines £1600 full comp my name
I've had mine about 5 months now and i stil love it! I also was tempted by the Zetec S but, at the most i've seen about 10 GTi's since I've had mine, think how many Zetec S's you see a day.
